Remarkable performances seen as Mashramani National Schools Competition kicks off

St. Pius Primary copped first with “Together we will meet at God’s feet”
Children from various schools across the 10 administrative regions today swarmed the National Cultural Centre, to cheer the participants of the much anticipated finals of the Children’s Mashramani Competition.
Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, urged the students to make the best of the opportunities they are given because they will create the pathway to further enhance the development of their country.
“Continue in Guyana, making her a better developed and attractive place, which is in your hands, this is your job, you are going to be the men and women in the few years, who will lead this country in science, economics, business and education…you are going to be the leaders in a few years, so pay attention to what your teacher is teaching you, and that is to make sure you can take Guyana from where she is right now to a much better place.”
The minister further disclosed that the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Visional Arts Competition will be hosted in Guyana in the next few weeks. The Caribbean region will be coming to Guyana, to host this competition, in which students who are writing the CSEC exams will enter their pieces, which will then be judged on.
The events of the day showcased riveting performances from primary and secondary school students, who have competed in the regional children’s competition and acquired first positions in the various age groups and category.
Emerging first, after a splendid performance in the Dance segment, age five to seven, was St. Pius Primary with the entry of “Together we will meet at God’s Feet.” Copping second was Genesis Early Childhood Centre (from Region Three) with “Guyana’s Garden of Hope”. This left Regma Primary from Region Ten taking third with “One Power”.

Meanwhile, in the 11 to 13 age group, Individual Dance, Richard Ishmael Secondary copped first in the Religious Beliefs category with “Caalyah Yasrael”. Then Tutorial Secondary from Region Six copped second, leaving Taymouth Manor Primary from Region Two with third.
In the Dance Group, age 11 to 13, securing first position was North Georgetown Secondary, while Zeeburg Secondary copped second with “Highest Praises” and New Amsterdam Secondary from Region Six with “Restoration” was awarded third.

The children’s competition will continue on February 13, with Calypso and Dramatic Poetry at the National Cultural Centre, and to crown it all off will be the much anticipated Children’s Costume and Float Parade, which will be held on February 14, beginning from the Parade Ground, then traversing the streets of Georgetown and concluding at the National Park, where the floats will be judged.
