PPP General Secretary, Clement Rohee
The state-owned Guyana Chronicle has been directed to take People’s Progressive Party (PPP) General Secretary, Clement Rohee off its front page but a senior official has denied this
Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com) was told that the instruction was issued last week by the Office of the President. The senior news editors have been made aware of the instruction, according to the sources.
But Acting Editor-in-Chief, Chamanlall Naipaul said no such instruction has been handed down. “There is no policy that Mr. Rohee mustn’t be on the front page. It is the judgment of the editor,” he told Demwaves.
Rohee, a presidential hopeful, has been hosting PPP press conferences every Monday for several months now.
Instructions of a similar nature have been issued in the past to the National Communications Network (NCN) against Dr. Leslie Ramsammy when he was Minister of Health.
