It seems that the Department of Building is targeting the Indo Caribbean worship centers. We had the NYC Councilman Sanders visiting these sites and getting a firsthand information.

The DOB has been visiting every house of worship in cluding thejEWISH ONES  in Brooklyn.

The DOB is doing their job, so stop complaining.Houses of worship  must comply.

Currently there are two new Masjids that was built and the DOB is yet to give them C of O. It's a fact of life and all the DOB is doing is to ensure that laws are observed or people lives are safe..

That is well and proper. however, the community has a RIGHT to ask questions and get answers.

Useing words like "targeted" is not asking questions it is an accusation.

The Jewish folks from Crown Heights started this and here where the an economic organization that is supposed to assist with economic matter is now being caught up with politics.

Nehru, Chief's contribution must be taken with some degree of seriousness. It is Vish's advocacy role to speak in terms of Indian religious houses of worship being targeted - for whatever value this characterization may have in his line of advocacy.

What Chief is reminding us of is the early 2000s when a similar discussion took place by the now-disgraced Real Estate operators in the Richmond Hill community (I do not characterize all as such, only the once who were vocal). That "Basement" issue resonates similarly with this Church issue. At that time it was a safety and quality of life issue where Richmond Hill and other new immigrant communities were egregious in quality of life issues - double parking, garbage, etc. - and City services were not calibrated to service a population infused with basement dwellers. At that time the bogeyman of Howard Beach (mostly whites) mother/daughter were supposedly not targeted, and the Jewish homes in Brooklyn.

Well, we know that in Richmond Hill there is a sizable Indian Christian population and there are a couple of churches there that service this demographic. We need to find out if these are like the Indian Muslim, Sikh  and Hindu churches and are left alone. Then you can claim bias-ness. Also we need to articulate what the minutiae of the issues are before we rant and rave. Remember all Vishnu is doing is what his advocacy inclinations dictate. It is up to the rest of us to be convinced or not. So let's stop heaping crap at Chief. Yeah....let's elevate our postings here.

Kari, In response to your above statement, let me take this golden opportunity to state quite clearly that I was never in favor of anyone trying to legalise Basements. Some Homeowners are Leaches and would try and do anything for Tax Free Dollars. Secondly, Vishnu never mentioned any Religion. We need more people like Vish to be proactive and to ask the hard question on our behalf. I have a Bangladesh Homeowner as a Neighbor but he lives in bangladesh after withdrawing all the Equity on the property, collecting Rent and not paying Mortage. God BLESS america.

RHEDC have contact the Muslim, Punjabi, Hindu and the Christian leadership.

We have had several meetings with the DOB and now City Council.

We are given up to "5 sites that will be looked at for special consideration".

WE want to be inclusive.
