RHTY&SC Patron’s Green Economy cricket to attract 16 Softball Teams

The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Patron’s Green Economy Trophy cricket which was scheduled to bowl off on Saturday 1st July, 2017, has been postponed due to the weather and other factors but would now be played using Softball Teams. The Tournament would now bowl off on Saturday 15th July, 2017, once the weather improves.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster stated that a total of 16 (sixteen) teams would play the tournament which would be a Knock-out one. Teams across Berbice are invited to enter the biggest ever Softball Competition to ever held in Berbice. Teams have to submit fifteen players, a Manager and a contact telephone number. The first round of matches would be played using the 10/10 format, while the 3rd place and finals would be played 20/20. National, Academy or contracted played with the Guyana Cricket Board would not be allowed to participate. Teams have until Monday 10th July, 2017, to enter while the drawing for fixtures would be done on Wednesday 12th July, 2017, at the Area “H” Ground starting at 16.00 hours (4.00 pm).
The winning team would take home $500,000 and a trophy, the 1st Runner-up $300,000 and a trophy, the 2nd Runner-up $100,000 and a trophy, while the 3rd Runner-up would be $50,000 richer. The Man of the Finals would pocket $50,000 and a trophy.
Foster expressed confidence that the tournament would be a great success as softball cricket is very popular in the ancient county. The organisers would be using the Area “H” Ground, Rose Hall Canje and the Albion Ground to host the tournament which would be played over three weekends. The final has been set for Sunday 30th July, where the 3rd place play-off and finals would be played. The long standing Secretary/CEO also disclosed that the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club would be using the tournament to promote the Say No to Suicide Message, educating Berbicians on Climate Change and the efforts towards a green economy in Guyana. Meanwhile, the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS, would be sharing out $2M worth of school bags, bicycles and cricket balls under the Patron’s Fund on Friday 21st July at the St. Francis Training Centre at 13.00 hours (1.00 pm). The Club had planned to do the presentation on Saturday 8th July, 2017, but due to the postponement of the Patron’s Cup, the new date was planned. The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club would also be distributing $1M worth of exercise books to schools drawn across Berbice.
