Roger Khan arrives on Friday night.

Convicted drug trafficker Shaheed “Roger” Khan

Convicted drug lord Shaheed ‘Roger’ Khan will arrive in Guyana on Friday night onboard an American Airlines flight.

According to a release, the Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have begun processing Khan for “removal” from a detention center in Miami, Florida.

Accompanied by ICE agents, the 47-year-old Khan is expected to land at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) late on Friday night.

Local enforcement authorities will meet the drug lord when he arrives at the CJIA.

Khan was arrested in neighboring Suriname in 2006 and then flown to Trinidad where US agents took control of him. He was taken to New York and charged.
Khan, who was jailed in October 2009 for up to 15 years, asked the US court earlier this year to release him early, based on new regulations.

Khan was sentenced to a total of 40 years’ imprisonment on three separate charges by US Judge, Dora Irizarry, in 2009 after she accepted the plea bargain agreement he had reached with prosecutors.

However, two of the sentences, 10 years for an illegal firearm possession charge, and 15 years for witness tampering ran concurrently with the other 15-year jail term.
In addition to the jail time, Roger Khan had to undergo supervised release for five years although according to the judge, he is likely to be deported. Khan was also accused of executing competitors in the drug trade.

Khan was considered to be the country’s most powerful drug trafficker.
He was said to have close ties to the then, People’s Progressive Party/Civic, with the late ex-Home Affairs Minister, Ronald Gajraj, acting as a conduit for a “Phantom Squad”.The squad was accused of murdering several criminals, competitors, and others.
Another minister reportedly facilitated the ordering of phone calls interception equipment.
In June 2006, Khan was arrested in Paramaribo with three of his bodyguards in a sting operation.

I have a feeling that the man might need some protection. So Prashad would have ensured that whoever tries to attack him will at lease get a bust head from a hammer thrown at their head.

Roger Khan detained at CID on murder allegations

September 21, 2019

Shaheed Roger Khan is being detained by police in Guyana on murder allegations.

This is according to his lawyer, Glen Hanoman who spoke to reporters moments ago outside the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Hanoman, who was at CID awaiting Khan’s arrival from the airport, was allowed to meet with his client some 20 minutes after he arrived at Police Headquarters.

The allegations were put to Khan in the absence of his lawyers, according to Hanoman.

Khan is expected to be kept in custody pending investigations.

According to the lawyer, Khan is happy to be back in Guyana.

Khan arrived in Guyana just before midnight Friday at the CJIA, from the USA where he spent some eight years in jail on a drug trafficking charge.

The DPP should bring this case to trial post haste. With these murders occurring in 2005 and 2006, there should be sufficient opportunities already to accumulate the evidence against Khan especially since he was incarcerated for most of that time lending comfort to others feeling safe enough to say what they know about Khan's alleged involvement in these murders.

Most cases remain cold due to the inability to identify a perpetrator. Given that Khan was regarded as the mastermind for more than a decade, this should be easy to bring to judgement.

There is no statute of limitations on murder so hopefully whoever is responsible is finally brought to justice. I have seen cases where subordinates watch their superiors do nothing about an investigation and when they take over they revive the investigation to their satisfaction. Maybe someone will come around who feels strong enough about justice for the Sawh family.
