Rose Hall Town 46th Anniversary RHTY&SC Cricket teams and Ministry of Social Protection honours senior citizens

Fifteen senior citizens over the age of 80 years on Tuesday last were honoured by the eight cricket teams of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, MS and the Ministry of Social Protection. The senior citizens were honoured as part of the 46th anniversary celebration of Rose Hall Town, which is being organised by the cricket teams.

Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster stated that the RHTY&SC, MS and its eight cricket teams were honoured to recognise the contribution of the senior citizens who played a major role in building the foundation for the township. The long serving Club Official stated that it was very important to honour heroes of the past, so that the younger generation of residents can be inspired to follow in their footsteps. The RHTY&SC, MS he proudly stated was in a class of its own and no other youth and sports organisation stand close to it in terms of activities, achievements and the impact it is creating on the lives of youths, the elderly and less fortunate.

Foster challenged the senior citizens to share their vast experience with youths and to inspire youths to develop a culture of honesty, hard work, faith in God and personal discipline. The RHTY&SC, MS he stated would continue to invest in assisting the elderly and would work hard to improve conditions for them to live out their golden years.

Town Clerk Natasha Munroe stated that she was pleased to be part of a programme to honour senior citizens who she hailed as the township’s unsung heroes. Mayor Vijai Ramoo stated that he was delighted that the Town Council took the right decision to award the organising of the 46th anniversary celebration to the RHTY&SC and the cricket teams. The 2016 Rose Hall Town Week he stated is without doubt the best organised and most impressive of its type, ever organised in Guyana. The Mayor also told students in the audience to be committed to their studies.

The RHTY&SC expressed gratitude to Minister Volda Lawerence and the Ministry of Social Protection for the donation of fifteen hampers. The hampers worth $10,000 each were handed over to the senior citizens.
