The Sea Adventurer Cruise Ship

Georgetown, GINA, April 11, 2015

The Sea Adventurer cruise ship, formerly the Clipper, docked at the Guyana National Shipping Corporation (GNSC) wharf today, allowing over 100 tourists from around the world the opportunity to view the beautiful capital city, Georgetown.

The Sea Adventurer is an ice-strengthened ship suited for soft adventures in the Antartica, and is the third time a cruise ship has arrived in Guyana thus far for the year. The MS  Hamburg (formerly the Vista Mar), came twice with hundreds of passengers.

Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), Indranauth Haralsingh, visited the ship and extended a warm welcome to Captain Peter Ushke who described Guyana as an excellent destination.

“This ship has a draft of about 4.5 meters and it’s ideal for Guyana’s very shallow and silk laden rivers, and we know that these ships are customised for soft adventures as well,” Haralsingh told media operatives who were given a tour of the ship.

Haralsingh noted that persons will have the opportunity to tour the city and on April 12, visit the Botanical Gardens for bird watching. He told the captain Guyana has over 877 bird species and that Georgetown is one of few capitals that has a bird sanctuary, in the Botanical Gardens. The ship will sail to the Essequibo, then to Baganara and Kaieteur Falls.

Haralsingh described Kaieteur Falls as one of the most amazing attractions in the world, with one of the longest single drops and that it is kept in its pristine form as it is a major eco-tourims product.

“We are very happy that this ship, the Sea Adventurer chose Guyana, and again working with Evergreen Adventures, it shows just how ready and responsive we are at a short notice,” Haralsingh pointed out.

Meanwhile, Captain Ushke said that initially, the boat was to dock at Essequibo, but because of the low tide they were forced to come to Georgetown.

However, he said docking at Georgetown was the best solution since the passengers were afforded the opportunity to view the beautiful capital city. “So far, this seems to be an excellent destination, also for the future to come more often and we are looking forward to watch whatever there is - birds and waterfalls and all the natural things,” the captain stated.

He said that Sea Adventurer is looking for a place like Guyana that is not over developed and where the nature and wild life is not so much disturbed.

He said the ship travels among the Arctic, Antarctica and southern areas and is always looking for destinations. The vessel will be heading north to Trinidad and Tobago and then to Europe.

The PPP neglects G/town and you think that cruise tourism is going to be a big attraction?  What will they see?  Garbage and choked drains?

Paramaribo is in much better shape!

When APNU AFC wins and Cathy Hughes becomes tourism minister then there will be progress.

A vote for PNC = A vote for Garbage.

PNC's Mayor Hamilton Greene turned GT into a toilet.

As my grandfather used to say, "They cannot even run a cakeshop and they want to run a country"

Carl Greenidge bankrupt Guyana and PNC still has him as their top Financial advisor.

The PPP  runs Guyana with a logie mentality.  The PPP govt has peaceful co-existence with garbage, mold and fungus on buildings, and no environmental pride.  They do not believe in preventative maintenance; they believe in maintenance ONLY AFTER the KN exposes it in the papers.

They build new schools and govt buildings and only a matter of time, mold, fungus, and grass begins to take over.  Look at the condition of Govt buildings at Whim, Black Bush, No. 63 govt compound, WCD, etc.  They are falling apart piece by piece.

Tourism cannot flourish when you don't have public restrooms, security, environmental appeal, flies and mosquitoes tearing your tail, no rules for public vending, or food standards, etc.

seriously? Haralsingh recommends a tour of the stink, most uncivilized capital in the Caribbean . . . huh?

Why don't these people go abroad and learn how tourism works?

IN the Middle East they have hundreds of thousands of people doing round the clock cleaning the roads, parapets.  The malls and grocery stores are cleaned all the time.

Cleanliness=Tourism.  We are light years away from that.  Unless they can figure out how to keep flies away from your food, you don't want to bring tourists.

Recently, there were some Americans who visited me on the Corentyne.  I took them to a high end place I thought was the best place.  Towards the end of the meal, a cat jumped up on the table.  I was so embarrassed.

Also, on the Corentyne, I went to a Chinese place on the left side to the entrance to Albion ground. As they were preparing the food, it was as if the flies had an Annual General Meeting on my food.  I could not eat that food, and was too polite to walk out.  Not wanting to waste the food, I gave it to a bum in Rose Hall.

Great piece of news.

When tourists come you want them to go back with a good story, not more criticisms than praise.

You have to prepare for tourism.  WE went to Kaieteur and the plane did not have air condition.  Did not believe something like that can happen.

.

Let me tell you something.  The PNC wasn't voted into run G/town.  It was the GGG.  Do you remember who the GGG is?

The PPP is to blame because the PPP REFUSED to hold LGE.

So PPP=garbage.

There are several Caribbean cities which are no dirtier than NYC.  You don't have to go all the way to the Middle East.  These are poor people who pay old ladies to sweep the streets clean.  When people see a clean place they don't want to be the person making it filthy.  Guyanese are nasty because they live in a nasty environment.

In 1972 (YES PNC ERA) ,when Georgetown was the Garden City of the Caribbean, people didn't litter.  The drains and trenches were also kept clean.

Yes.  The tourists will promptly go in their FB and on tripadvisor telling the world how poverty stricken and filthy G/town is.

Any way Guyana will never be a cruise destination as it is too far off the main routes,  and we don't have a decent harbor.  You cannot build  tourist industry based on a small boat arriving every 3 months.

The lack of LGE for 20 years has really hurt Guyana and tourism as GT is in the state it is because of the ongoing debacle at City Hall.

The garbage issue is really a big nuisance.
