Security Plan: Rohee says Ramjattan given “basket to fetch water”
,
Home Affairs Minister, Clement Rohee is not at all satisfied with the current crime fighting methods being employed by his successor and is advocating for more robust planning from Vice President, Khemraj Ramjattan.
Rohee at a press conference on Monday, July 13 decried the current strategies being employed by Ramjattan, who has responsibility for Public Security.
He said that the Vice President has failed to produce a progressive and comprehensive citizen security plan like the PPP/C did and that Ramjattan should draft one, consult with the relevant stakeholders, including the National Commission for Law and Order, take it to cabinet for consideration, and if approved, have it published after sending it to law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders for implementation.
“Instead of presenting a draft strategy to [President David] Granger, his boss, Granger presents one to Ramjattan and instructs him like the dutiful servant to go refine and implement it,” the former Government Minister stated.
Rohee is claiming that all five components of President Granger’s security strategy “is replete with the same elements the PPP/C was implementing through the Ministry of Home Affairs under the Minister who they so badly wanted to see leave.”
“Now that Ramjattan is where Rohee was some time ago he must face what Rohee faced especially in view of the fact that unlike Rohee who had a fully GOG- funded public safety and security plan and an IDB funded Citizen’s Security Programme. Ramjattan has neither of the two except plenty talk and empty promises emanating from a clinically truncated and degutted Ministry of Home Affairs hugged by a 3sum and now a mere shadow of what it was less two months ago. Granger and Harmon have effectively given Ramjattan a basket to fetch water,” Rohee stated.
