Reason I am asking is because I have tickets for the Yankees play off for next Wednesday. Yesterday I call a dear friend of mine to take him to the game. The man replied that next Wednesday is Diwali and he being a Hindu he cannot go, more so he said his wife will be mad with him if he goes to a game on Diwali night.

So is it Wednesday or Thursday for I will have to let him know if he is observing on the wrong day.

Some are celebrating on the 18th and others on the 19th. It's depends on the sighting of the New Moon. South India is celebrating on the 18th. Perhaps Hindus abroad from the South are following the tradition  and celebrating on the 18th. In Toronto here, most are celebrating on the 19th. However, the celebrations in most temples starts 2 days before and continues for  a week.

Nehru Bhai, Happy Diwali to you and your family.  Hope you get that expensive piece of Jewelry you promised my Bhaabhi.

When is Diwali in  2017, 2018, and 2019?

Diwali falls in either October or November each year, depending on the cycle of the moon. It's observed on the 15th day of Kartik, the holiest month in the Hindu lunar calendar.

  • In 2017,Diwali is on October 19.(See calendar). It is observed a day earlier in south India, on October 18.

Churchill says is the 18th

Why are Hindus so bloody ignorant that every year they asked the same question? The same goes to a crack-head Muslim who corrected me that Mahatma Gandi's birthday was the October 2nd when it was already October 2nd in India. Hindus and Muslims need to practice common decency in these respective areas.
