POLICE in âGâ Division are currently investigating a sexual assault allegation filed against Region Two Regional Executive Officer (REO), Denis Jaikarran.
It is alleged that Jaikarran used his office to seduce and sexually harass a nurse from the Charity Oscar Joseph Hospital, an office assistant and also an accounts clerk. It is also alleged that he threatened to transfer or dismiss them should they speak out.
During an interview with reporters on Wednesday, Region Two Regional Chairman, Devanand Ramdatt, said upon resuming duty at the Regional Democratic Councilâs Office on Wednesday, after a one-year hiatus, he was met with letters of complaint concerning alleged cases of sexual misconduct by Jaikarran. Those letters, he said, were immediately taken to the Commander of âGâ Division, Crystal Robinson.
According to him, the letters were sent to him by a Peopleâs National Congress Reform (PNCR) group from Queenstown village, who was seeking immediate action on the grounds that Jaikarranâs alleged behaviour was reckless and unprofessional. Unable to act, the Regional Chairman submitted the letters to the Regional Commander for an investigation to be conducted into the allegations.
Jaikarran has several matters before the court â all linked to sexual harassment. He was recently charged on May 22 with assault when he appeared before Essequibo Magistrate, Esther Sam, via Skype. The charge stated that in September, 2019, he assaulted Regional Vice Chairman Nandranie Coonjah at the Regional Democratic Council building, Anna Regina. This newspaper also spoke with another female who he had promised a job and asked her to visit his office after 16:00hrs on a Friday. The female said she was scared and never showed up since she was fully aware that on Fridays, the RDC office closes at 15:30hrs. The police are currently investigating.
Good to see the Chronicle not only reporting Coalition propaganda anymore.
The Chronicle should be sold off to a private entity. The government doesn't need this. They have their information department which can pass information to private media entities that will first vet the information before publishing. If they do so they can save on the cost of some of those public housing that people like Mahipaul is abusing.
