KANNUR: 28-year-old Vannathamveetil Soumya, a resident of Padannakkara near Pinarayi in the district, who was arrested on the charge of poisoning to death her daughter and also her parents, has been given in police custody for four days after she was presented in the chief judicial magistrate court in Thalassery on Wednesday evening.
According to police, the case is more shocking than thought earlier and she has to be questioned in detail, though it has been proved that she only poisoned her parents and daughter to death.
This is a well-planned series of murders executed by Soumya, and the motive behind was to lead life according to her whims and fancies, without being questioned by anybody, said police. One night her daughter found her in a compromising position in their home, with two men. When the girl questioned this she thrashed her and decided to eliminate her. Similarly, her parents had also objected to her escapades but she did not want to get out of that, said police.
After she got separated from her husband, Kodungallur native Kishore, with who had kind of live-in relationship, she had maintained relationships with a few other men, they said.
When Soumya poisoned her daughter by mixing it in food, and she died on January 21, nobody suspected any foul play, which gave her confidence to poison her own parents, according to police. It was on March 7 that her mother Kamala died, while father Kunhikannan died on April 13. It was in September 2012, another daughter, one-year-old Keerthana, had also died, and all of them had the same symptoms - nausea.

Soumya was taken to her house to collect evidence on Wednesday noon, where hundreds of people had gathered to see her. She showed police the utensils she used to give food mixed with poison to her parents and daughter and the police have taken it into their possession to send it for chemical examination.
Though she claims that there no role for others in executing these murders so perfectly, the police have not taken her claims for granted. Though there is no material evidence to show a role of others, the possibility could not be ruled out and they are verifying the claims and also investigation is on to find out if anyone else has a role in it, said police.
Soumya was so shrewd that she had told her neighbors that the nausea was possibly due to the presence of ammonia in the well, and even told them the water has to be tested. But the scientific examination of the water proved the claim wrong. Police also said her getting admitted to the hospital was part of her drama.
