Shooting at Congress Place: Granger denies knowing shooter, PNC members point to bodyguard

The shooter captured with gun in hand

Shortly after noon yesterday delegates at the 18th Biennial Congress of the People’s National Congress (PNC) were sent scampering for cover after an individual who is reported to be the bodyguard of David Granger discharged a loaded firearm inside the building. Though no one was injured the incident caused many to express concerns for their safety as well as the action of the shooter who reportedly goes by the name ‘Primo’.

When questioned about the incident Granger at first sought to deny that an actual shooting took place but backtracked when confronted with an image of the shooter with a firearm in his hand. He then said, “The person whose image is there might have been engaged to secure the returning officer’s staff, not by Congress Place…the returning officer and his staff were separate from the congress admin they were independent so I was not aware of that person being recruited to secure any function…he was part of the returning officer’s security team”. However many persons who are familiar with the PNC leader’s security apparatus said Primo is part of his security team.

This development along with Granger’s haste to disassociate himself from him has led several observers to question whether or not the shooter holds a firearm license. During the 2011 elections Granger’s security detail comprised persons with shady character and ties to the criminal underworld. On many occasions Godfrey ‘Baffa’ Watson was among a team which provided security to Granger and his APNU deputy, Rupert Roopnarine.
