reportedly forced teen students

Police in Region Six, East Berbice, have taken a Corentyne teacher into custody on an allegation that he had forced two teenage sisters — reportedly school dropouts aged 14 and 15 — to perform oral sex on him.

Reports are that the teacher had gone to the home of the teen girls ostensibly to take food items for the family, but had instead collected the sisters and taken them to another location, where he allegedly forced them to perform the act on him. Following the incident, the teens went to the Albion Police Station and reported the matter.

Police Divisional Commander, Assistant Commissioner Ian Amsterdam, confirmed that the teacher has been taken into custody, and that the teens had taken police to the place where the incident had allegedly occurred. He said the police have since prepared a file based on the reports, and are awaiting legal advice on the matter.

Guyana Times understands that some parents had, in the past, alleged that this teacher had been seeking advanced payment of school fees under the pretext that the money was needed to purchase fuel for a motor vehicle.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident that has similar implications of sexual impropriety, it was reported to Guyana Times that an executive member of the Alliance For Change (AFC) had sexually assaulted a Corentyne teenage girl. Commander Amsterdam reported on Thursday that police had gone to the suspect’s home following receipt of the report, but he had gone into hiding. The man has since turned himself in to police custody.

According to Amsterdam, the Police have already prepared a file based on the report made by the teenager. That file will be sent for legal advice soon, Amsterdam said.

This is not the first time teachers are taking advantage of school girls in Guyana, and it still happening on to this day. This is not how I remember teachers in my days. This is mind boggling.

In this complicated world, teachers need to deal with every possible topics that will help them deal with the kids of today.

Educational Psychology should be a must for all those who are desirous of taking up the profession. It's a very in-depth study of the causes of children's problems at home and in school. I did one required course and I also did one course in Education for Exceptional Children.

I agree with you partially, but every child needs a clean break of attaining an education without to having teachers forcing themselves sexually on them. Children go through spells as they aged in life, but they should never be traumatized by forced sexual experience at a young age.

Every teachers that taught us had teachers of their own. This is a generational practice to teach and encourage children to excel in their studies.

Not sure how child psychology as a mandatory requirement would prevent these incidents. In fact it would empower the perpetrators as they would have full knowledge of how to manipulate a child.

An extra curriculum for teachers may not work for everyone, but it would be beneficial to most. We can't judge all teachers the same simply because of few bad ones.

Knuckle head, teachers teach. That is already a specialty.

Each school primary school should have a visiting nurse who spent at least half a day with each school in her coverage. High school should have a permanent staff that is an onsite counselor as well as a staff nurse. We will have the money so these should be additions to staff to secure our children  Each region should have a permanent oversight officer whose duty is to oversee these staff and also to keep records, keep in contact with parents, monitor truancy and can serve as the first official source of official reporting on wayward kids or awful parents.

It should be compulsory. A special education course and an inclusive education course should be compulsory.

You cannot learn psychology from one course and even as an under graduate the the student comes our needing practical. That is why it is an advance discipline. It is not as easy as the hard sciences where everything has strict guidelines. It is a discipline that the practitioner can only acquire after long internship and where they themselves undergo analysis as part of their training.

There must be four introduction compulsory courses for all teachers 1. Child psychology and child development 2. Special education 3. Inclusive education 3. Multicultural Education.

As a person who was humiliated by my Jamaican classroom teacher because I was perceived as a Hindu exotic instead of a Caribbean Christian it is very important to put emphasis on request for all cultures.
