Doing PTA, in the class was Millicent Hook and Kennet Baynes. Four others were there, including me.

There was this movie with Sidney Poitier, I think it was the one along with Tony Curtis. At the Ritz it was showing. Sensational to the Negro Villagers, a Blackman's friendship with a Whiteman. At the time of the lynchings in America.

Anyway, Millicent was an exceptionally brilliant gurl. So, she tells of the movie and calls out the Black actor's name-Sydney Potty-eh. Perhaps, the first time any of us have heard the name, muchless the actor's significance. But Kenneth and Millicent knew of him, maybe from the popular Black Magazine around at the time.

Kenneth immediately started to laugh, repeating Millicent's pronounciation of Potty-eh mixed in his laughter. Laughing, he said, "Pointer, Sydney Pointer."

Millicient replied, "Where ignorance is bliss, it's a folly to be wise."

Headmaster Abdool Annief was impressed at the discussions. Millicent did pass PTA, selected and did teach at Rosignol Government School. If alive, her 1950's hero and mentor muss bring back her days of youth and quest of knowledge.
