Sir Garfield Sobers International School’s cricket… Ramsammy hits 67 as both Guyanese schools defeated

Both St Joseph’s High School and School of the Nations lost their last preliminary games in the 31st annual Sir Garfield Sobers International 40-over Schools cricket tournament in Barbados on Thursday.
At Isolation on Thursday, Mark Ramsammy continued his consistent run in the tournament with an accomplished 67 and followed it up with two wickets but his effort failed to save School of the Nations from a 117-run defeat to Combermere School of Barbados in a match reduced to 30 overs because of wet pitch.
But only 26 overs were bowled at cut off time with Combermere School making 226-8 in 26 overs as Najee Holder 61, Matthew Forde 43, Zidane Clarke 28 not out, Kastun Stoute 27 were the main scores for the home team.
Aviel Tilhu 3-44, Mark Baptiste 2-36 and Ramsammy 2-50 got the wickets for the Guyanese School who fell for 109 all out in 26 overs with Ramsammy 67 leading the fight. Runeko Layne (3-21) and Najee Holder (2-9) shared five wickets between them.
At Content: Lester Vaughan School beat St Joseph High by 67 runs after making 138 all out in 29.1 overs with only Rashad Armstrong (35) and Shaquan Mayers (31) passing 12.
Stephon Wilson had 4-14 and Elian Whyte 3-34 for St Joseph’s High school, who were dismissed for 71 in 15 overs as Jeremiah Scott top scored with18. Calvin Marcus had 6-34 and Kashief Ross 2-6.
At Bridgefield: BCL Juniors beat Oakville Cricket Academy of Canada by 6 wickets.
Oakville fell for 124 in 32.4 overs with the Nandu brothers of Guyanese parentage, Marcus and Matthew, scoring 27 and 25 respectively. Guyanese Dwayne Dick who plays for GNIC made 12 as Shane Collymore took 4-35.

School of the Nations and Oakville were to play their final games in the competition yesterday.
School of the Nations were to oppose T&T’s Fatima College at the James Bryan ground in the play-off for 21st place, while Oakville were set to play Bajan School Sir Everton Weekes CoE U17 at the Empire ground for the ninth spot.
French Verandah, St Vincent Community College were to face-off with Lodge School at 3W’s Oval, Cave Hill and BCL Juniors come up against Ch Ch Foundation School at the Foursquare Oval in yesterday’s semi-finals with the winners meeting from 11:00hrs at the Kensington Oval in tomorrow’s final.
