TIME is running out for six-month old Daniel Goberdhan, who was diagnosed with complex cyanotic congenital heart disease and who requires urgent palliative surgery.
According to the baby’s father, Andrew Prashad, the procedure which will take the form of a Blalock-Taussig shunt, which has to be performed overseas, at a cost of US$6,500.
Through the Three Rivers Foundation, Goberdhan will be operated on in India.
A cardiology evaluation was conducted by Dr. Diane Alexander in Trinidad on August 25th, which confirmed this prognosis.
In an effort to save their son’s life, Daniel’s parents, who live in Cummings Lodge on the East Coast of Demerara, are appealing to the public for assistance, as they are unable to finance the operation and the transportation costs which amount to US$9,200.
Prashad, a painter, explained that an ultrasound examination revealed that his son’s liver is situated where the heart is supposed to be while his heart is on the right side, and noted that discomfort caused from the sickness has Daniel constantly crying, vomiting, heated and sweating; little Daniel was born with this condition.
“Daniel’s condition is worsening and we are asking for the public’s assistance in saving his life,” the distraught father entreated.
He explained too that his son presently undergoes treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) every three weeks, an intervention that is no longer sufficient to prolong the baby’s life.
Persons interested in contributing towards saving Daniel’s life, can contact the family on telephone numbers 222- 2526, 233-2001 and 657-3481.
