A Police Constable from the Brickdam Police Station accidentally shot himself in the foot, while he was sleeping on Friday, October 13 and the Guyana Police Force remains silent on the incident.

According to information reaching the News Room, at the time of the incident, the cop, who was identified as Constable Cummings, was supposed to be guarding outside the Camp Street prison.

The News Room was told that while on duty outside the Camp Street jail, Constable Cummings who was sitting in a minibus, fell asleep while holding a service revolver in his hands. The weapon reportedly had a round in the breach and it was while sleeping that his finger accidentally pressed the trigger.

Efforts by the News Room to confirm the hours that the rank was on duty before he was shot have all proven futile. The News Room is however aware of policemen and women sometimes being forced to work more than twelve hours without being relieved due to the failure of other ranks to show up for work on time.

Repeated efforts today to contact several senior police officers for an official comment on the incident proved futile.

It was only two weeks ago that Minister of Public Security, Khemraj Ramjattan told the media that he was having a very bad month with the police.

Luckily this chap didn't hold the gun close to his crotch, he could have blown out his balls.

How the hell did he accidently fire a revolver in his sleep? The trigger on a revolver requires more effort than an automatic. When you pull the trigger the hammer moves back and the cylinder "revolves" to position a cartridge then the hammer falls back. Unless he had the revolver in a "cocked" position which would be manually moving the hammer back until it locks into position and requiring less pressure to pull the trigger. Either way this chap needs to find a job sans firearms or weapons.

Drugb, I give you all right to kick up a storm on this one. Now we can talk about the incompetence of police and politics.

As an aspiring slop can carrier for the pnc, you should not be posting articles like this unless permission is granted from lilmohan and djangy.

That being said, this is the slackness that is pervasive throughout the pnc administration, from neglecting the repair of potholes, sporting up sweet homan with overseas trips;  cozy relationship with the chinese, rich business men, exxon; misspending on party officials and the list goes on to eternity.  Police feel that because blackman in charge, there is no need for professionalism, they can do whatever they want and get away with it, including shooting themselves.

His pistol was made without a safety latch.

Some of those Russian tokarev pistols from WW2 that you can buy from gunstores for 50 Us dollars don't have any safety.  They were built to shoot the enemy. So you have to be very careful when handling them.

Prashad almost lost his life several times when the revolves of others fall to the floor and the hammer hit the floor. There is a type of crossbar that newer models of revolvers have that prevents this type of firing . But not all revolvers have them.

That's different and the weapon would have to fall on the hammer for the firing pin to hit the primer.
