Cognisant of the fact that it is the first horserace meet being held at the new venue and the fact that it is a new type of horseracing being introduced in the country, the organisers have made a few adjustments to the meet.
Known for their high standard and quality in whatever they do, the organisers, Nand Persaud and Company Limited known for its signature Karibee Rice Brand, has decided to make a few adjustments to the day’s activity. Set for this Sunday at the company’s spanking new facilities at No 36 village Corentyne Berbice, starting time is 14:00 hrs.
The activity will now be a day affair so as to get everything correct on the first occasion.
The company has spent millions on constructing the track, which when completed will morphed into a play field and soon to be completed family fun park on their 36 Village Macedonia Estate.
To make sure things are well coordinated the organisers have created a special company –the Sky Plus Incorporated has being established to oversee the successful coordination of the event.
The event, which will see the horses running in a straight line from start to finish, is dubbed as the” Nand Persaud Karibee Sprint Classic”.
The track is one straight mile.
The longest event will be 880 yards, while the shortest will be 440 yards.
There are seven races carded for the day with cash, trophies and other incentives totaling close to $3M on offer with 40 horses entered so far for the day’s meet.
The main event will be an open affair with all horses allowed to participate over 880 yards for a winning purse of $350,000 and trophy. So far horses such as Plum Plum, Strom Bird, Cat Messiah and Golden Blue Echo and Light Up Canada are expected to participate.
The G class horses will be galloping over 660 yards for a winning take of $250,000 and trophy. There is an event for horses classified H and lower also over 660 yards with the winners set to receive $200,000 and trophy. The two year old animals will be racing over 440 yards for a $100,000 and trophy.
