You people are too shortsighted when it comes to economics and finance.  Why would you place so much emphasis people buying everything local when the population is less than a million?  If Guyana wants to generate dollars from agriculture then they would have to focus on producing and exporting products that are in demand on the world market.

So what size does a country have to be before considering buying things from local suppliers? When you have a small population it is even more important to have a workforce that produces goods, instead of a workforce that sells imported goods. Money doesn't grow on trees. But without trees you can't make the paper that  the money is printed on.

You are re-trying something that failed miserably.  Granger's talk of Guava cheese re-kindled memories of the PNC's backward economic policies that brought poverty and misery to the nation.. Borrow a page from the South East Asian nations and you will find great success.  Going to back to past and get excited with LFS ideas is certainly the road that takes you over a cliff.

Equador is quietly becoming a major exporter of banana and cassava. Guyana should concentrate on its strength rum and rum related products.

i say invest in a world class Zoo in Berbice and use it to attract tourists from neighboring countries.  We have lots of animals, birds, fishes, and reptiles to fill it. Zoos earn big revenues and create jobs.   

Tourism with all inclusive resort with cheap package tours in safe areas is the way to go. That is when we get our own sovereign nation.

People would prefer to go to zoo and look at animals in Guyana rather looking at people.  Too much a skin teeth down there.

Guyana has enough fertile land to plant almost anything. But the population has now got the hang of big deals in drugs and gold smuggling.

Granger should call on his black army to plant cassava in mass production to feed them white mouth coolie in Guyana and Trinidad. I have enough home grown everything embedded in my body that would last a lifetime. No more cassava for the Prince.

Guyana isn't not internationally competitive.  That is why the PPP couldn't find markets for rice after they forced farmers to grow more. And why GuySICKO is bankrupt, kept alive only by endless bailouts.
