[www.inewsguyana.com] β€“ The Alliance for Change (AFC) announced today that it is now pressing for a sitting of the National Assembly to be called on October 22 or 24; explaining that it is permissible under the Parliamentary Standing Orders.

Last week, AFC had said it desired a sitting on October 16 where the No –Confidence Motion is expected to be tabled and read for the first time. To this end, the AFC says that any sitting for October 16 seems unlikely since no Order Paper has been published.

Last week, Clerk of the National Assembly Sherlock Isaacs told iNews that a meeting of the Parliamentary Management Committee was set for tomorrow (Wednesday, October 15), where a date for the first sitting of the House is to be discussed. The annual two month recess of Parliament ended on October 10.

The Alliance for Change says it is disappointed that there has been no effort to convene a sitting of the House now that the recess period is over.

The AFC believes that the delay is as a result of its tabling the No Confidence Motion. The Motion was submitted to Clerk of the Assembly on August 7. The Speaker of the House, Raphael Trotman has since pronounced that it met the criteria for Motions.

In a letter to the Isaacs, dated October 10, 2014, AFC Executive Member,  Moses Nagamootoo, who tabled the Motion, requested that it be placed on the Order Paper as a matter of priority, to take precedence over all other business of the House and for debate at the earliest sitting.

AFC says it is in contact with the Leader of the Opposition, David Granger so that the earliest possible date can be set. Granger has already committed his and the support of his Party to ensuring passage of the Motion.

Speaking on the Radio Program β€˜Hard Talk’ at the weekend, Alliance for Change (AFC) Executive Cathy Hughes had said that her Party supports the APNU in their calls for LGE. Despite the AFC signaling its intension to go ahead with a no confidence motion which once successful could see general elections, Hughes says if the date for LGE was announced as tomorrow her Party would be ready to participate.

What Kathy Hughes says is true. If President Ramotar announces a date for LGE, the AFC could defer the no-confidence motion to a later time. It would be in keeping with the 10-point AFC demand which Nagamootoo announced a while back.

In practical terms, though, the PPP regime would not want to hold local government elections in 2015, just one year before general elections are due.

Gilly you are spot on the PPP ain't gonna call no elections. They don't even want their database servers doing an election they are terrified of dat. (inside joke for IT geeks).

The fact is the PPP is like the PNC circa 1992. They are going to their various corners and the soupies and who have to survive are telling them what they want to hear yes man we gonna vote for you give we de 10 thousand dollars.

Bottom line come election day they are going to get a solid kick straight to the balls.

The AFC is too small of a party to make an impact on Guyana's political landscape.

PPP and PNC are political heavyweights.

The rest can talk big but end up eating crow.

Come October 16th, Moses will end up in a mental institution. The AFC needs to look beyond Moses.

Politics calls for calculated moves and experienced players. AFC has a lot to learn.

Leaving Gerhard out of the AFC parliamentary team was AFC's biggest blunder. They put a few dunces ahead of the young and bright Gerhard. Gerhard had a master plan and the dunces in the AFC shoved it aside.

They are too greedy and today, they hold katahar.
