Sooba attends her first management meeting with Mayor Green in 3 years

After more than two years of eluding meetings with Mayor Hamilton Green, Town Clerk Carol Sooba turned up, without resistance, to a Monday morning management meeting headed by the Mayor.

Green and Sooba have been at loggerheads since her appointment at the City Council as acting Town Clerk by the former Minister of Local Government.

The Mayor, Hamilton Green along with the Deputy Mayor Patricia Chase – Greene and other Councilors have always challenged Sooba’s competency and claimed that she was an imposition on the Council by the People’s Progressive Party Administration.

Their conflicts were often times reasoned along political lines as Sooba never denied her affiliation to then PPP government now opposition and likewise the Mayor, who has always supported the recently elected APNU+AFC coalition.

“For three years, Sooba ain’t come up in this building, she was circumspect this morning. The woman walk turn back wave her hand and tell everybody good morning,” one of the Mayor’s auxiliary staff could be heard commenting.

During the meeting, the Mayor could be heard saying that he will not support “square pegs in round holes” as he urged support for central government in the ongoing cleanup activities around the City.

The Mayor said he didn’t want anyone to feel it was Sunday school.

Sooba did not make any contributions during the 20 minutes that the media sat in the meeting.

The meeting focused largely on making internal adjustments consequent to a transition in government and to lend support to the new administration in the restoration of Georgetown.

On Sunday President David Granger was seen inspecting the cleaning of main canals around the city and rehabilitation works being carried out on the Independence Arch at the head of Brickdam in preparations for the May 26 Independence celebrations.

Restoration works will be done on all monuments across the country as the President has pledged to pay much more attention to national monuments, festivals and symbols.
