Sooba reports…

ACTING Town Clerk Carol Sooba said yesterday that despite delayed statutory meetings at City Hall for the last few months, all departments within the municipality have been functioning effectively except that of the Public Relations Officer’s Office. 

She was, at the time, responding to a question at a City Hall Press Conference when updating the media on City Hall’s affairs.

The last seven statutory meetings of the City Council all ended abruptly and on an unproductive note but however did not affect the various departments, except for that of Public Relations Officer, Royston King’s Office, Sooba said.

“Most, if not all of the departments at City Hall, except for that section of the Public Relations Officer, who wants to be Town Clerk, are functioning,” she reiterated.

Asked about her relationship with Chief Constable Andrew Foo, she assured that she has “full confidence” in him and the City Constabulary.

She continued that the decision to have a private bodyguard after life threatening remarks were made against her was a “personal choice” and does not, in any way, relate to no confidence in Foo or the City Constabulary.

Last month Sooba had issued a statement to the press, expressing fear for her life after a “credible source” fed her information that elements of the underworld were planning to physically harm her by dousing her with corrosive substances and fire bombing her residence.

As such, she opted to have a personal bodyguard for security purposes.

Commenting also on the delay of a constitutional statutory meeting, Sooba said: “I can only do what I am supposed to as Town Clerk.”

As such she remains optimistic that the previous politically driven agenda of some which prevented the last few statutory meetings from being conducted will not interfere with next Monday’s proceedings.

Over the last few months, a number of events have unfolded at City Hall including a bomb scare, which forced the acting Town Clerk out of the premises; failure by Mayor Hamilton Green to acknowledge her presence as Acting Town Clerk at the start of the meetings and the illegal assumption of her post by PRO King, who was illegally sworn in to the post by the Mayor.

These events among others at City Hall have forced the Acting Town Clerk and supporting Councilors to vacate the chamber on several occasions over the last few months, resulting in no legal statutory meeting being held.
