Sponsorship handed over for TAMPICO 60 Miles Caricom Day Cycle Race

General Manager of Guyana Beverage Company Inc., distributors of Tampico juice and sponsor of the CARICAOM Day 60-mile Open Cycle Road Race organised by the Flying Ace Cycling Club (FACC), has handed over the sponsorship cheque.

Set for Monday July 3, on the Corentyne Highway in the Ancient County of Berbice, Selman handed the cheque at the company’s Palmyra East Coast Berbice Office and receiving on behalf of the club was Second Vice President, former national cyclist, Neil Reece.

The event will peddle off outside the company’s Palmyra Office at 10:00hrs proceed to the No. 51 Police Station before returning to the place of origin for the finish.

Selman in remarks said that the company has been in Guyana for the past 23 years and Berbice for 14 of those years and Guyanese, more particularly Berbicians have given them excellent support.

He said that he is happy to be giving back to the community, “This gesture is a small way in giving back to the community from where we garner our support, especially in the field of sport and education. This is one way to tell the people of Guyana and Berbice, thanks you for your support over the years.”

While adding that the objective of the company is to try and keep youths off the streets, Selman informed that the company believes that this is the way in going forward with regards to encouraging youths to get involved in rewarding activity.

Coming on for high praise was FACC and its Founder/Organiser and Coach Randolph Roberts. Selman dubbed the club a professional organisation and one of the best Cycling clubs in Guyana. He expressed thanks to them for organising the event which they have been doing for some years now.

Coach Roberts in thanking Mr. Selman and the Guyana Beverage Company Inc., said that the company is truly one for all seasons and a true company for the Caribbean and it is only fitting that the race will be held on CARICOM Day.

Roberts noted that the gesture by the Company should serve at an example for other businesses to follow. He welcomed Mr. Selman back to Guyana and expressed wishes for a continued fruitful relationship in the future.

Prizes will be awarded to the first 10 finishers overall, first four veterans, first three juveniles, first three 12-14 and first three females. The first two club cyclists will also be rewarded. There will also be 10 sprint prizes up for grabs.

The event which began for cyclists in Berbice only has since become an open event and has grown to be one of the biggest evens. It was not done for a few years due mainly to the absence of Mr. Selman who had returned to his native Trinidad and Tobago.
