The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) will continue their march to a clean sweep of all the spoils in every segment of Season 2 of the Stag Elite League when they play Topp XX in this afternoon’s opening game of another double header at the Tucville ground as the 2016/2017 edition winds down.
Already proving that they are the best having won the first round as well as the League Leaders Tournament, the Army lads will still be red hot following their eight win on Friday night last, a 4-0 hammering of West Berbice’ Monedderlust at the Tucville ground.
This evening’s main attraction, will be between second placed Fruta Conquerors and Buxton United, both will be fresh having had quite a few days to recuperate following their last matches.
Conquerors will want to win handsomely in order to strengthen their quest to challenge the GDF for the top spot with the hope that the Army will slip up in their remaining match even as they seek not to lose either.
The home team will unleash the likes of Eon Alleyne, Jermaine Junior, Kwame LaFleur, Konata Manning, Dennis Edwards and Reshawn Sandiford in their quest for a win number 7, while Buxton will hope to salvage an unlikely win if the likes of Dillon Wright, Denver Dennis, Clive Andries, Nixon Robinson, William Europe and Michael Phyll can piece things together.

Kick off time today is 16:00hrs.
Friday night’s feature game saw Victoria Kings cantering to their third win in 9 matches in style as they flayed Linden’s Topp XX, 5-1. The fast paced match-up saw both sides enjoying a fair amount of possession in the opening exchanges.
As the match matured, the tested, tried and proven Aubrey Gibson sent the Victoria, East Coast Demerara based Kings into the lead with a well calculated shot from about 30 yards out. The shot seemed destined to head into touch, Topp XX’s goalkeeper Tevin Crawford had already accepted that belief only to see the ball landing in the back of the nets to his and teammates dismay but the delight of Gibson and teammates.
It was the 38th minute that the first goal came; not daunted by giving up the lead, Topp XX kept going after the Kings and it was another elder statesman that brought the equalizer for the Bauxite boys.
On the stroke of half time, Travis Waterton completed a promising run into the Kings defensive third to finish clinically past Kings Custodian Andrew Williams. Both teams were at least satisfied that the half ended on even keel, 1-1.
But the final 45 minutes went the way of the Kings which blasted four goals without response from Topp XX. Samuel Blackett in the 55th, Kemroy Alfred in the 77th, Akeem Holder (89th) and Ruel Williams in the 2nd minute of added on time (90+2) all inked their names on the score sheet to complete a huge win which enabled them to move into the third place on 11 points behind the GDF and Conquerors. It was the sixth loss for the Lindeners.
The GDF were almost flawless in their demolition of Monedderlust and were led by a second half double off the boot of Sherwyn Caesar who is now the leading goal scorer with 8 goals having been joint leader prior with Conquerors’ Eon Alleyne.
Caesar was on target in the 67th and 84th minute. Monedderlust, with a single win going into the match in seven outings, never threatened the Army’s dominance and meekly surrendered following a barrage of attacks.
Setting the stage for the GDF’s win was Delroy Ferdinand with his first goal in this round which came in the 14th minute. Carlos Adams also scored his first goals of the season which was registered in the 54th minute.
