English is a second language to creoles for most Guyanese. We speak English only in formal occasions ( or at least try to speak it!)

Up to now I can never understand British people when they speak. They have corrupted their own language. I have to put on closed caption whenever I look at British movies.

Why would it feel like torture? If there is the need to learn another language you will learn it.

They feel in disadvantage because they only speak English, while immigrants and visitors always have a choice. Non-native speakers can speak English or speak in their own language to not be understood. Native speakers can only achieve this by corrupting their own language. You notice this practice of corrupting their own language to encrypt it in the 5 anglo-saxon countries: Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA.
