Fifty – Five – year – old Linden Primo, the man who allegedly fired a gunshot at the headquarters of the Peoples National Congress Reform (PNCR) was charged with Threatening Behaviour.

He appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and was granted self bail.

Primo of Farm, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara pleaded not guilty to the charge. The matter was transferred before Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond for report and fixtures on August 4.

Police sources confirmed to iNews that the man is not the holder of a firearm license and that the weapon belongs to the mining company he works for. Despite this fact, it is not clear why he was not charged for discharging a loaded firearm when he is not the holder of such a license.

Particulars of the charge stated that on Sunday, July 27 at the PNCR’s Headquarters, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, he made use of threatening behaviour to Akeshaw Barker, where the breach of the peace maybe occasioned.

According to reports, on the day in question around 09:00 hrs the virtual complainant (VC) was at Congress Place for the Party’s Biennial congress. Later around 13:15 hrs she went to the auditorium door to see a staff when the defendant who was standing approximately seven feet away from her drew a gun from his waist.

He pointed the said gun in her direction and discharged a shot. Subsequently, the matter was reported to the Police, an investigation was carried out and he was charged.

He was represented by Attorney-at-Law, Patrice Henry, who told the Court that his client is a father of two and a security guard for a mining company.

Police Prosecutor Michael Grant requested that Primo be placed on substantial bail and lodge his passport. However, defence counsel said his client his client is an American citizen and his passport is presently in possession of the Embassy.

Primo was arrested on Tuesday evening at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport as he attempted to board a flight to the United States.

No gun charges.  A small fine and the man is free.

DO you now understand who is doing deal with who?

Brian, the man is charged with threatening behaviour. Most likely the witness will not testify to establish threat. If he was checking out the firearm and it discharged accidentally, then that's not threatening behaviour. Got my drift.
