Syria government is stronger now, British PM admits

British Prime Minister David Cameron

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has strengthened his position in recent months, British Prime Minister David Cameron admits.

Speaking on the state-run BBC’s Andrew Marr show, Cameron said the Syrian government is stronger now than few months ago.

"I think he [Assad] may be stronger than he was a few months ago but I'd still describe the situation as a stalemate,” Cameron said.

He also said London is still committed to help the insurgents in Syria despite dorpping plans to arm them in the Arab country.

Britain pushed to lift an European Union (EU) arms embargo on Syria militants to open up the possibility for the West to arm the insurgents fighting to topple Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Cameron, however, held off after military chiefs warned over the risks of arming the insurgents.

According to reports, British public is largely against sending arms to the militats in Syria. There are also fears that any weapons Britain supply could fall into the hands of extremists.

Syrian government forces recaptured the strategically important town of al-Qusayr in Western Syria in June. Most of the much bigger city of Homs also has been retaken by the government troops.

Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since March 2011. According to the United Nations, more than 90,000 people have died and millions of others displaced in the violence.

The Western countries, including Britain, and their other regional allies, have been supporting over two years of militancy in Syria.

Army continues mop-up ops across Syria, kills dozens of militants

Syrian troopers are seen on a tank in the town of Qusayr, June 5, 2013.

The Syrian army continues its mop-up operations against the militants across the country, killing dozens of them, military sources say.

Army troops have killed a number of al-Qaeda-linked militants in eastern Ghouta District on the outskirts of the capital, Damascus.

Similar operations were carried out in Latakia and Hasaka provinces as well as the flashpoint northern city of Aleppo.

Meanwhile, government forces have clashed with a group of militants in Deir Ezzor City near the border with Turkey.

The militants were trying to smuggle 15 tankers of stolen crude oil into Turkey. Some 30 militants were killed in the clashes.

The army has recently conducted successful clean-up operations in the country, inflicting heavy losses on the Takfiri militants.

Syria has been experiencing deadly unrest since 2011. Many people, including large numbers of Syrian army and security forces, have been killed in the violence.

Damascus says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants are foreign nationals.

The Syrian government says the West and its regional allies - especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey - are supporting the militants.

Syria confiscates militant weapons

Syrian soldiers in the capital, Damascus

Syrian forces have confiscated weapons belonging to foreign-backed Takfiri militants in Latakia Province.

The weapons, including sniper rifles, automatic weapons, ammunition, and communication devices, were stored in a house in the town of al-Haffah.

The Syrian army has not yet disclosed further information regarding the weapons. It is not yet known which country the supplies came from.

Western powers and their regional allies including the Israeli regime, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar are supporting anti-Syria militant groups, including al-Qaeda-linked terrorists.

The militants have also on several occasions announced that they have received weaponry from foreign countries.

Syrian army forces have confiscated weapons belonging to the militants several times over the past months.

Earlier this month, Syria seized a shipment of Israeli-made weapons in the western city of Hama.

On July 16, Syrian army troops carried out a series of mop-up operations in the Syrian capital, Damascus.

Syrian soldiers have also discovered a tunnel with 400m length in al-Qaboun area under the Damascus-Homs highway that connects al-Qaboun and Jobar.

According to Syrian military sources, the tunnel was used by the militants to transfer weapons and ammunitions and to attack civilians.

Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since March 2011. According to the United Nations, more than 90,000 people have died and millions of others displaced in the violence.

On July 16, United Nations Assistant Secretary General for human rights Ivan Simonovic said that around 5,000 people are dying every month as a result of the turmoil in Syria.

The inevitable utter defeat of the wahab-sponsored terrorists will mean the rise of Iran, Syria and Hezbollah.  It is no accident Israel is now agreeing to peace talks with the Palestinians with the '67 boundaries as the starting point, something which they previously rejected outright.  I told you guys before, Iran will be the impetus for a just Palestinian solution, whether directly or indirectly.

Saudi is headed for an implosion and long decline as they become less relevant due to US oil production and the large find in Coober Pedy, Australia.
