T&T abandons MOU for 10,000 acres of agri land – Minister Holder

Mar 02, 2017 News, http://www.kaieteurnewsonline....and-minister-holder/

Now that both Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago have new governments, the arrangement to make 10,000 acres of agricultural lands available to the Twin-Island Republic, seems to have been abandoned.

Agriculture Minister, Noel Holder, said that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the previous governments of both countries, has since expired.

It was back in 2013 that then Agriculture Minister, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, signed the MoU with his Trinidadian counterpart, Devant Maharaj.

“A Memorandum of Understanding is only valid for one year, and in that one year, certain things have to be done on both sides. In that one year, Trinidad apparently expressed no further interest,” Minister Holder said, recently.

He noted that even during the latest summit of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Trinidad expressed no interest in going ahead with the deal.

“There were discussions to forge better bilateral relations, but none of these talks had anything much to do with Agriculture, so the land deal wasn’t raised,” the Minister said.

Even though then majority opposition, A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and the Alliance For Change (AFC) was against the initiative, Holder said a few months ago that the Coalition Government is still interested in the deal.

“Oh yeah, we are interested in MoUs with any government,” Holder declared.

The Minister went further to say, “In fact, we are offering interior lands to investors from any country at very low rental.”

Holder explained that the Guyana Government does not have the resources to construct roads, airstrips and other amenities to open up Guyanese interior, but with being offered cheap lands, investors should not have any problem with constructing the necessary infrastructure.

“If we have investors coming in here to utilize interior lands and so, they would have to put in all the basic amenities–light, water, roads, airstrips and so.”

This, Holder pointed out, would benefit the land of many waters, even decades after the investors leave.

“You see, they can make their money and leave, but they can’t take their development with them.”

Meanwhile, the previous Trinidadian Government had said that the island was pursuing the initiative, given the fact that there is a significant demand for lands there.

The Island’s former Minister of Agriculture and Food Production, Devant Maharaj, had said that while Trinidad and Tobago does have fertile agricultural lands, these are spread across the twin islands, and cannot accommodate mega farms.

He explained that over the years, there has been tight competition between lands for housing and lands for agriculture.

“The Housing Ministry is mandated to provide subsidized housing for persons in Trinidad and Tobago. To date, we have close to 200,000 applications for housing and they only produced about 9,000 houses in the last three years. Before that, they produced about 2,000 houses, so this gives an idea about the intense competition we have,” the former Minister said during a visit to Guyana.

The then Trinidian Government had intensions to cultivate in Guyana, cash crops like corn, soya, legumes and cassava. They were also eying the rearing of fish and poultry.

Perhaps the Trinidad and Tobago government is leery about the activities and intentions of the current Guyana government.

Who cares. Keep them out of Guyana. Now that we have oil they want to "help" and get involved? Remember when we didn't have foreign exchange in the late 70's and they refused to give us oil? I think the last estimate of T&T's oil reserves was 12 years? I hope this government remembers and doesn't sell out to fill their own pockets.

Well, who do you think caused them to think that way? We did. Guyanese, and I am generalizing here, love to speak badly about Guyana and believe everything foreign is better. They would condemn their own but would shovel shit for the white man. A friend of mine married a Trinidadian chap. Chap is nice but treats her like a domestic slave. One of HER cousins has a heavy Trinidadian accent and I thought he was Trinidadian. Chap said he is half Trinidadian because his cousin married a Trinidadian. There is a jackass named Ritchie Etwaru. Go look on youtube . I think the video is named "Can you control your own luck". Listen to the first few minutes when he describes where he is from.

I think Guyanese got eyepass in Trinidad during the Burnham years with them suitcase traders and people fleeing Guyana to work in T&T.

My sister in law is married to one of these jackasses. He tried to tell me that because he is a Trini he is better.  This dude is a short order cook at his sister's restaurant in Boston. He once wrote a note to be notarized. After every word he inserted a period. When I was done whipping his ass he could not sit on it for a couple of weeks. This functionally illiterate jackass had to shut up. Luckily my wife intervened and saved his ass from some more shit laced adjectives and verbs.

The Trinis told you they aren't interested.  Where do you get the idea that they want to "help"?   When Kamla pushed the land project in Guyana her constituency base in Trinidad lambasted her for ignoring the farming sector in Trinidad.  The deal died long ago.

Druggie during the Burnham days Guyanese went to T&T bought stuff and returned to Guyana to sell.  Bribed BWIA and T&T customs personnel too so Trinis were happy.

During the Jagdeo era Guyanese went to T&T and some became slaves. A few were even murdered for demanding that their employers should pay them. Others were immediately reported to immigration and were promoted put on that early morning CAL flight to GEO.

If a Trini kids wants to insult another they call him a Guyanese. Bougie T&T women discuss getting a "Guyanese".  That is Trini for getting a maid or a gardener. That is where YOUR Jagdeo put Guyanese.

Why the shock when PPP supporters before 1992 used to tell people that they were Trinidadians. This with their brawling Corentyne accents!  Most didn't even know what the inside of Piarco looked like.

Do yourself and everybody here a favor and load your brain before shooting your mouth off. They are actively trying to get involved.

Trinidad, Suriname offer to refine Guyana’s oil

The Liza well has 800 to 1.2 billion barrels of recoverable oil.

Trinidad and Tobago, and Suriname have offered to refine Guyana’s oil, although ExxonMobil reserves the right to take its portion elsewhere for processing, authorities said Thursday.

Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman said  Trinidad and Tobago’s oil refinery, which has a capacity to process 175,000 barrels per day, has been operating “below optimum” even with the importation of oil from Nigeria and elsewhere for blending, refining and export.

That's just one article. So stick with Nigerian oil.

Why did you not ask the people then? Why ask me now? I was not in Trinidad or Guyana when you were selling black pudding at Piarco airport.

As usual, you don't have personal experience on the matter but yet you claim to know the facts. As a teen I went to Trinidad and this is what I was told by the locals. They said that Guyanese were mud eaters and have to run to Trinidad to buy foodstuff because of bannum(Burnham).

When a country loses its dignity, invariably there will be eyepass.

Better drinking Nehru's rum than drinking PNC snake oil. You know what "Run dem skoant out wid wan kutlass" is. Granger and Harmon  gave you the kutlass treatment. Now you cry sour grapes. They should have fasten their big toes in your anal canal.
