Target killer admits to 17 murders of PPP workers, others

KARACHI: An employee of the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has confessed to 17 target killings during a police interrogation.

 

Syed Maroof Shah alias Baba TT, a driver of the KPT, arrested by the Karachi police has confessed to the murder of 11 workers of the PPP, six of Sipah-e-Sahaba and Sunni Tehreek and one of the MQM.

 

Mehtab was appointed in KPT in 2008 without any verification by the police. It is worth noting that in the previous governments in Ports and Shipping Ministry many with criminal records were appointed, some of them arrested by the law enforcers. According to the confidential investigation report of Karachi South police Syed Maroof Shah 37, father of three children, was allegedly linked to a political party.

 

While confessing his killings he revealed that many officials of the Karachi police were in close contact with his party's militant wing and they regularly provided information regarding the movement of law enforcement agencies and their strategies.He further confessed that arms and ammunition was supplied to them through the ambulances of a welfare organisation associated with the political party.

 

He confessed that his 9 mm pistol always remained in the custody of an ambulance driver Imran Mota belonging to the same organisation.According to the report Syed Maroof's elder and younger brothers Syed Mumtaz Shah and Yasir alias Commando are also target killers associated with the same party. Mumtaz Shah was killed in a road accident while his younger brother Yasir is confined in the Karachi Central Jail.

 

Maroof Shah narrated that a huge quantity of sophisticated weapons remained in his custody including 2 AK 47 rifles, 2 rifles 44 bore and two 9mm pistols.He also confessed his involvement in May 12, 2007 carnage in which dozens of people killed and injured.
