Is there a place on my computer where I can find my activate code for Microsoft Office? Many thanks.

You simply reactivate if you lost it. I have never seen the question asked but if you have the original product key, call in. I once had a problem where I was told I installed it in too many computers when I actually was moving it from my notebook to new surface. I called, told them my circumstances and they facilitated the change by giving me an activation code. Make sure you are not conned by the Indian guys wanting to get into your computer and check it out. They also try to sell you antivirus software. Get the support number off Microsoft support page.

Let me know which version of office. I may have a workaround.

Apache open office is the way to go, don't have all the bells and whistles of MS offices but it suffices.  You need some proof of purchase if you call Microsoft. You would not find the activation code on the computer, it would be on the original CD packaging or if it was originally downloaded, they should have sent you an email.

Having done it many times in migration of office especially ( and adobe suite) on my computers they do not ask you any of those questions. They ask for the original key, check why it cannot be activated and give you a new activation code if almost every instance. Have a good answer if the product is over installed. I say I have a new computer and want to move my office to it.

I usually ask for the supervisor if those hustlers on the support team try to sell something else rather than address the specific question. On installation, ask for activation by phone.

In this case, kaz does not seem to have the key, so proof of purchase is the only solution.

Finding product keys are is simple. There are dozens of little progs that do it for you like magical jelly beans. One can also trudge through the registry using regedit from the command line.

Thanks guys. I do have the product keys but it says that they are incorrect. I just switched out my desktop for another one and reinstalled Office. I have Office 2010. I use the same copy on my desktop and laptop so wanted to see what my laptop had.

You are allowed two install. As luck would have it, Microsoft let you go through the process and do not care how many times you install office 10. They think they have the right product now in office 365 where they can stick you for a yearly fee. I am not using Microsoft or any paid product if I do not have to. I use freeware.

My only paid product is Autocad ( plus pipes electrical and cost)  and Adobe Creative Suite at this point and my old copy of Office 10 ( my last) I just dumped Microsoft's project because I have an open source one that works fine for free.

Update. I am a schmuck. Rather than using the CD to install Office, I installed it from the desktop that I was discarding. Perhaps there were updates to Office while it was on my old desktop and therefore didn't recognize my product keys. I spoke to Microsoft and they advised me to install Office from the internet using www.office.com\backup and from there I was able to install and activate it.

Thanks again for all your invaluable advise.
