Lumumba is weary of the PPP racist politics

Presidential Adviser on Empowerment Odinga Lumumba is getting ready to renounce the Peoples Progressive Party. His decision is motivated by his inability to participate in a major way in the country’s  financial affairs under the Donald Ramotar Administration. This he believes is being fueled by the racist agenda being practiced by the government.

According to a Cochore News source Lumumba has no respect for President Ramotar. He is strongly of the view that the only reason he was retained in the present administration was at the behest of former President Bharatt Jagdeo.

Odinga Lumumba first appointment was  under the Bharatt Jagdeo administration as  Presidential Adviser on Enpowerment. Soon afterwards he was appointed the point man of the President of Guyana Youth Initiative Program where he reported carted off over $90 Million. The cash was taken from the lotto fund and placed in the consolidated fund  prompting the then Auditor General Anand Goolsaran to chide the Bharatt Jagdeo administration.

Despite his misgivings Jagdeo retained Lumumba’s services.  This decision proved beneficial because following the destruction and disturbances which occurred in the East Coast village of Buxton during the Jagdeo era he turned to Lumumba for critical support.

Lumumba who has his roots in the village was was able to use his political influence to champion the “rebuilding” of the village. In particular Tippery Hall was rebuilt and steel band was formed but the villagers still carry the emotional scars  inflicted by years of military  harassment after being branded a crime heaven by Jagdeo.

For his part, Lumumba benefited from preferential treatment in the purchase and sale of  huge chunks of real estate in various parts of the country for mineral extraction, government projects and housing development. Also under the Bharatt Jagdeo administration he was able to make millions of dollars  through the illegal export of dolphins from Guyana and  his questionable  ownership of  Miss Guyana Pageant. The opportunity also allowed him to rebuild  Mc Neal Enterprise brand- the official  entertainment arm of the state.

Under the present administration Lumumba has complained bitterly to his closest friends as being reduced to that of a “house slave”. He is still outraged over the fact that he was charged for his election day assault of a poll officer Onica Beckles. In his view  his outburst was child’s play compared to that of former Junior Finance Minister Kellawan Lall who publicly gun butted a teenager but was never charged.

To further strengthen his point Lumumba made reference to Prime Minister’s son and the Public Works Minister’s son, both of whom have had brushes with law and charged accordingly. He opined that when compared to the President’s son Alexei Ramotar who drove his SUV off the road into a young man resulting in him being incapacitated for over a year but was never charged for the offense clearly points to a racist agenda.

He is reportedly pondering his future but is adamant that he will not return to either the Peoples National Congress (PNC) or the Good and Green Guyana (GGG). If he decides to leave politics altogether he indicated his preference to become the president of the Guyana Football Federation.
