A 19-year-old Sophia youth was in a critical condition last night after being shot and robbed near his home.
Romario Weithers, of ‘C’ Field, Sophia, was reportedly shot in the stomach at around 19:00 hrs after bandits attacked him and two other friends.
Georgetown Public Hospital sources listed him as critical and he was being prepared for emergency surgery.
Kaieteur News understands that the robbery victims are all employed as salesmen at a city store. According to reports, Weithers was chatting with his friends about two corners away from his home when two robbers, who were armed with a gun, attacked them.
A source said that one of the victims was struggling with the robbers and the bandit with the gun opened fire, wounding Weithers in the stomach. The robbers then fled after relieving the victims of their valuables. Weithers was reportedly relieved of his cell phone and a gold ring.
Apparently unaware that he was badly injured, Weithers reportedly walked home and told his mother about the incident. It was then that the woman reportedly saw the bullet wound and rushed her son to the GPHC.
