 - Parents of a Texas high school student who was reported missing in late January had abused their daughter after she refused an arranged marriage, leading her to run away from home until she was found in mid-March, police said.

Maarib Al Hishmawi, 16, was reported missing on Jan. 30 after she was last seen leaving Taft High School in Bexar County. She was located in mid-March when she was taken in by an organization that cared for her after she ran away, KSAT reported.

Authorities on Friday said Al Hishmawi’s parents β€” Abdulah Fahmi Al Hishmawi, 34, and Hamdiyah Saha Al Hishmawi, 33 β€” had allegedly beaten their daughter with a broomstick and poured hot cooking oil on her when she refused to marry a man in another city. The parents reportedly agreed to the arranged marriage in exchange for $20,000.

Jail them. Is this according to Sharia Law? No offense guys; just wondering.

You're asking if there's a law stating to pour hot oil on a girl child who refuses an arranged marriage?

I am asking about if the daughter refuses an arranged marriage, is she subjected to punishment?

Thanks for the clarification. Most likely one of the Islamic experts can give  you a solid answer. But I personally think that human conscience should come before any old book written by dunno who thousands of years ago. Something has to be wrong with parents who can subject their children to such brutality. That goes way beyond religious fanaticism. Maybe the religious fanaticism is just an outlet for what's already inherent in such people.

there is no such law...these are more cultural, nothing to do with religion

Arranged marriage is still widely accepted in certain society, but the punishment for young girls is what I am against for refusing. All of us who migrated to the west brought our culture with us.

Nehru brought Guyanese duck-curry, rum and whine down and touch your toe to America.

no, In Islam the girl has the right and freedom to choose her husband and also the rights of refusal.

Thanks. The parents are some messed up people, just like the Hindus in India. The parents should be charged for attempted murder.

This arrange marriage is a culture in most races . However , North American media would quick to plaster Muslim religion as evil in every unfortunate situation .

Very true. They love to sensationalize news that is negative towards muslims. This is a very sad situation but does not reflect the lives of 99 percent of American Muslims.
