Teenage bandit killed, two others escape

by

One of three bandits was shot dead at Dazzell Housing Scheme during a robbery, according to Deputy Police Commissioner Seelall Persaud.

The two others escaped with a quantity of cash and jewellery belonging to businessman Ian Evans and his family.

The incident occurred at Dazzell Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara about 2:15 PM. The bandist attacked Evans' wife in the grocery before going upstairs where one of them was shot dead.

The teenage bandit was shot dead by the businessman who Persaud said is a licenced firearm holder.

This is the third time in recent weeks that bandits have been either shot dead or injured during robbery attempts.

The first was at Haslington, East Coast Demerara where one of several bandits was shot and injured to his hand and the other was the fatal shooting of an intruder at a house at Annandale.

I am sorry that some of these bandits are just kids who should be in school, but I am also proud of the businessmen who stand their ground and confront these criminals and protect their businesses.

BTW

Will there be a wrongful death case to the business owner by any attorney or everyone agrees that the shooting was justified?

That's a possibility. In the past, many have been placed on trial for the use of excessive force causing death.

The current government is failing our young people; no jobs, no opportunity to engage in productive activities, no second chances.

If they were caught in the man house, committing the crime as reported I do not think the owner should be charged....if he was licenced to carry a fire arm.......he did not break any law by shooting these Bandits who were in his house and was robbing his family. The other Two should consider themselves lucky to escape unhurt.

Yes....citizens cannot depend on the police for protection anymore....look what the police did in Berbice a few days ago.

Similarily, if it is true De Minister raped the little Amerindian girl....and her parents caught him I feel they have every right to deal with him.
