Indian teen films her father raping her in hope her mother and police would believe her

  • Woman, 18, told her mother of four years of abuse, but was not believed
  • To get proof, she filmed her father raping her using her mobile phone
  • Father, 53, from Uttar Pradesh, in northern India, has now been arrested

An 18-year-old girl was forced to film her own father raping her in the hope her mother would believe her and it would lead to his arrest.

Sarita Devi*, from Jalaun district of Uttar Pradesh, in northern India, had to film her father raping her on her phone after suffering his attacks for over four years.

Sarita claimed her mother and older sister never believed her when she told them her father had been sexually assaulting her.

Victim: Sarita Devi, 18, (not her real name) taken into the police custody for statement after her father sexually abused her for four years in Uttar Pradesh, India

She said she was left with no option but to film the horrific incident and show the video as proof.

Sarita said: ‘My father has been sexually assaulting me for four years. I always tried talking to my family about it but no one believed me.

'I did not have any proof. I collected the proof this time for myself to be able to raise my voice against my father. I made the video clip on a mobile phone.

‘I am ashamed to have a father like him. I demand he is punished for exploiting me for so many years. I don’t want him hanged but publicly killed and beaten by the general public so that he realises how it feels to be tortured.

‘I am relieved the truth is out. I am happy it is over. I now want to see my father punished for what he did and try to get on with my life.’

It is devastating for children, when they trust parents for their well-being and protection and that trust is broken. It is something that is hard to find recovery and it destroy lives.

She is a brave and strong young woman, some would have certainly considered suicide.

That's still a high probability. She will need lot's of counselling and learn new coping skills.

Good observation. Just imagine the conflicts going through her mind every minute of the day. Only sleep brings relief. I do hope she stays strong and the father is dealt with severely...maybe public flogging on a regular basis.
