violent sex offender distracted by pornography on his cell phone was struck and killed by a runaway trailer on a Tennessee street Wednesday, according to a local report.
Kevin C. Jordan, 55, died a block from his East Memphis home when a 15-foot trailer hauling a load of tires smashed into a fence, tree and the convicted felon, authorities said.
By the time Dr. Pete Trimble, a dentist who works near the site of the collision, heard the commotion and walked outside, Jordan’s body had been covered by a white sheet.
He later learned of Jordan’s extensive rap sheet — four rape convictions — and the pornography police found on the victim’s cell phone after the crash.
“I think it’s ironic that he was watching porn,” Trimble told WMC—TV. “This dealt with some of the crimes he may have perpetuated.”
Jordan raped four Memphis women whose homes he burglarized, twice in 1991 and twice again in 1992. The sex assaults happened while Jordan was on parole from Tennessee State Penitentiary following a similar rape and burglary conviction.
He was sentenced to 25 years in prison, but WMC-TV reports he was released on good behavior.
While Jordan had not been accused of similar criminal activity since the two-decades-old string of violent assaults, a woman did accuse Jordan of indecent exposure during a March 2014 incident, court documents show.
He allegedly exposed his genitals and began masturbating to a woman looking outside her office window because “he had the urge to ‘play’ with himself,” he told police.
He ran off when the woman snapped a photo and called authorities.
Despite Jordan’s criminal history, his fiancée Connie Harris said he had turned his life around.
“It’s a big loss,” Harris told the TV station. “I love him. I still love him.”
