[www.inewsguyana.com] - Popeyes opened its third Georgetown branch with the owners pledging to establish more branches across the country in coming months.

Followed by loud cheering and applause, Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh along Chairman of the Guyana Restaurants Inc. R. L Singh on Saturday February 21 cut the ribbon to the amusement of scores of onlookers.

The Guyana Restaurants Inc. is the franchise holder of Popeyes in Guyana; the US $1M investment is the third and largest Popeye’s operation in the city.

Mr. Singh spoke of the employment opportunities this new establishment has created. “The establishment of this facility will create jobs for 36 persons, in addition to 72 already employed at Camp Street and Vlissingen road locations, further there will be employment opportunities for the various suppliers of raw materials which would be required by the store. We intend to secure all our raw materials except spices from local sources.”

He boasted about the state of the art facility that is housing the new operation. “This is one of the best, if not the best in the Caribbean…our staff are well trained to maintain high standards and you can rest assure that you will receive a prompt efficient and reliable service, training will continue on an ongoing basis to maintain the high standards Popeyes is known for internationally.”

Meanwhile, Finance Minister, Dr. Singh also noted that this new establishment is testimony of continued confidence by international businesses in Guyana’s economy. “They would not do business in Guyana with a Guyanese company unless they were optimistic about the future.”

He commended the franchise holder for their investment which has not only created employment for Guyanese but will help to improve their livelihoods.

Like Yugi, Popeye is a vegetarian. He prefers Spinach.

Mitwah

Amusing how they get excited over service enterprises that are not productive sectors. Save us the hyperboles "amazing achievement," etc.

How about some canning industries in the country areas and better sugar production at Skeldon?

More fast foods is actually bad for Guyana because you destroy the local brands in favor of the foreign brand names.  You are training your people to abandon local for the foreign franchise providers.
