I lived in Guyana most of my adult life. I worked with my mother when my father passed on at a young age. We were dirt poor in the gutter. I have been there done that. What makes you think I need to live first hand to understand current affairs in Guyana? Many members on this board live the tough life before they seek you go abroad. They should stop paying police and let them live off their tips or bribery. When police take a bribe, they are actually stealing from the government, and Minister Rohee is the main cause of police corruption.

A party of police ranks got the shock of their lives when they turned up at Giftland Office Max, Water Street, on a shoplifting report, only to find out that the perpetrator was one of their female colleagues. The woman, a Constable attached to the Brickdam Police Station, was caught with several chocolate bars and compact discs in her bag after denying that she was in possession of the items.

According to reports, the woman was seen putting the items into her bag and attempted to leave the premises when she was stopped by the store’s personnel. This newspaper was told that the woman became abusive when she was accused of attempting to leave without paying for the items in her bag. She was detained by the store’s security personnel until the police arrived on the scene and a check of her bag unearthed the items.

Kaieteur News understands that in an effort to have the store forego prosecution, the woman offered to pay for the items, which according to a source, would have amounted to double the cost of the items she had stolen. The woman was reportedly allowed to go free without being charged. However, word of the incident somehow reached the ears of a senior police officer, who immediately ordered an investigation. Up to last night, the woman was still not clear if the woman had been placed under close arrest.

The department of police under the Minister of Home Affairs has failed Guyana, the president and the PPP party to date. I have been candid about police corruption practice, and all fingers are pointing towards Minister Rohee. There is no excuse for failure.
