My GNI brothers and sisters I am going to  perform the Hajj.

Currently at the airport waiting to board. WiFi is available on the aircraft so I will stay in touch with GNI . However once the holy daysarrive I will be focussing g on Hajj.

Please note, however,  that after completing the pilgrimage and returning home, you should not allow anyone to call or refer to you as 'Haji'. Guyanese and Trinidadians are in the habit of attaching this title as an accolade. Note , however, that after completing Hajj your pilgrimage ends so you will revert to being an ordinary and humble servant of Allah and should therefore politely ask others not to address you as Haji.

Yuji, many thanks for your post above. The point I was making to Chief centers on the Islamic doctrine of humility. I am sure that most, if not all of us, are well aware of the 'air' that we have seen adopted by some folks (Muslims, Hindus and Christians) who performed specific religious rites and rituals; particularly after those rituals were completed far away from home. The performance of Hajj, however, carries no entitlement to any recognition or title whatsoever. Hajj is listed as the last of the 5 pillars of Islam and this is, in the view of most Muslims, indicative if its significance; i.e it is to be performed only IF an individual can afford the costs which have to be borne in travelling to and from his/her home to Mecca. I know there are some who, on return home, insist on being addressed as 'Haji'; this, however, is simply indicative of ego. Local practices vary from country as stated by Wikipedia, however, nothing in Islam grants any title to anyone who is performing or has performed Hajj.

Bhai Prash, everything will be fine. Chief will be safe and we will have Haji Chief's association when he gets back. This is a great achievement.

GNI is fortunate of have Haji and Yuji.

If my memory serves me well, the Chief has performed hajj before and I don't remember him seeking to be addressed as haji so I doubt he will do so now. The Chief is a lot more humble and mainstream than he gets credit for. That said, may Allah make the hajj fulfilling for the Chief as well as all others performing the hajj.

So, why is Chief spending so much money to undertake another Hajj? Why doesn't he donate that money to charity, another of the 5 pillars of Islam? Or donate it to the mosque he is helping to build in NY? He would get more blessings by giving to the poor and his mosque, I think.

[2] Prashad is urging Chief to return to the Dravidian-Hindu religion of his pre-Islamic ancestors in India. Why should Chief do that when he is a wholehearted believer in the Islamic faith?

[3] Alena06 makes the point that it's hypocritical of Chief to do the Hajj while cussing women on GNI. I recommend that Alena06 read up more on the social situation women confront in countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia etc. Being a Muslim does not shield a woman from a public flogging or amputation of her arms and other atrocities by men who returned from Hajj. So, Alena06 should not be shocked by Chief's cussing of women here.

Prash, I am totally for Freedom of Conscience and Freedom of Worship. Putting ancestors or present family aside, an individual has a right to worship within any religion freely and no other person has a right to question that individual's creed.

Bai, we Guyanese are descendants of the Dalit population. There is no chance our ancestors fought in the epic Mahabharata battles.
