To my fellow PPP/C supporters here, please do not take comfort in the fact that the Coalition came to power on the strength of 1 seat (a half a seat to be exact).

The PPP owes a significant amount of its 49% to the bribed, threatened, the opportunistic, and the reluctant (I include myself in this category).

The true base of the PPP is probably hovering around 40% of the national vote.

Demographics will also continue to bleed the PPP as the Indian population is a shrinking one and the Mixed population is set to explode onto the voter rolls for 2020.

The PPP needs to completely "refashion" and re form itself into a modern liberal democratic party that people want to support. The PPP is now reduced to being a party that people only support because of lingering distrust of the PNC. I suspect the PNC will spend the next five years being a competent government that won't scare the ordinary Indian. The Coalition is poised to attract more PPP Indian voters, more PPP Amerindian voters, and whatever amount of Black/Mixed support that voted PPP as the incumbent party.

The PPP is at a fork in the road at the moment. It can go either way. I am deeply pessimistic that it will go the right way.

1. Cleanse itself of evil and gross incompetence. Divorce itself from communism. Come up with an agenda for Guyana that will attract youths, the urban poor, the urban middle class, and the disaffected generally. This requires the party to basically dump it's present crop of buffoons inclusive of Nandalall, Manickchand, Ramotar et al. They would have to bring in competent non-communist people from outside the party. Become a Western liberal democratic party. Do some old fashioned parliamentary constituent work. And most importantly, cleanse itself of the Reverends of the party who do nothing but portray the party as a refuge for old racist Indian men. Lastly, the party's membership rolls has to be opened to the general population and they have to stop rigging party elections. Democracy will have to begin in the PPP. This list is by no means exhaustive.

2. Do nothing. Change nothing. Go into group think mode whereby you cuss down everyone...Blacks, Indians, Washington, London, Ottawa, Amerindians, et al. Buy into your own lies of having been "cheated" "once again." Hunker down at Freedom House. Tell each other soothing tales and drive the remaining few intelligent people out of the party forever. Spend your days on the Internet cussin down Black people. Oh yea, and file that Election Petition and spend the next five years getting it adjudicated in time for the 2020 election.

Having seen these cretins in action, my money is on them doing No. 2 because the party is both the "nasty party" and the "party of stupid." One can be either the "nasty party" or the "party of stupid", not both simultaneously. It would take smart talented people great difficulty to put the PPP back into office. However, the PPP has neither smart nor talented people. Not even a likeable Cheddi Jagan.

You, the supporters of the PPP, must demand that the party go down the painful but necessary route of No. 1.

The should embark on a zero-base rebuilding bringing in a cross-section of talented people from all the demographics.  In other words, they need to do what the "great" CBJ should have done in his fist five year, but from a position of power.  Now they have to do it climbing out of the pit in which they found themselves.

These clowns have no strategy except playing the base, and even that not so well.

BTW Shaitaan, they do have talents to make a difference, but they are relegated as they don't toe BJ's/Inner circle line.  I know one who was a top of the class London Business School grad, left last year for Florida after five years in GT.  He expressed frustration at the "kernel clique" who called the shots, without concurrence, without care of who thinks what.  The head of the clique was the honorable BJ.

* If that is the case then the PNC/AFC will deserve to continue governing the country.

* But what is the probability of the PNC governing Guyana competently ?

* IT IS VERY SLIM!

* Maybe the PNC/AFC will get lucky---Exxon will discover oil in commercial quantities, the farmers will be encouraged to keep producing, the hydro project will proceed, Norway will extend it's grants, etc, etc

BOTTOM LINE:

* The PPP needs a serious TIME OUT----maybe 10-15 years----in that time all the old goats(Rohee, Jagdeo, etc) in the party will de DEAD and the young pups will be in leadership roles.

What shyte you talking.  The PNC and PPP will never die.

They are mass based party.

Yes the PPP will lose influence but you will always find 100,000 krullie who will die for the PPP.

Did you walk on Richmond Hill yesterday?

There were Krullies sharing fliers - cheated - not defeated.

PLus the PPP got $10 billion in MILK and HONEY funds which they stole from the treasury to run the party over the next 5 years and to contest the local elections and the 2020 general elections.

Guyana is in good shape  - a good government under Granger/Nagamootoo and a STRONG and well funded opposition in the PPP.

CHECKS and BALANCE.

The PPP survived 28 years of PNC dictatorship and they will bounce back next election.  Their grassroots support is very strong.

Joey Jagan will never make it in the PPP. He lost the opportunity.

That's the problem with Guyanese, they like to guess.

Good shape - POLITICALLY.

In a mess - ECONOMICALLY.

Thank you for the question.  This is what we call checks and balance.

I was unclear, you "UPS" me and I make it clear for you.

Accountability and Transparency - never happen under the PPP.

The problem is that the party was designed and operates as a self-perpetuating trust.

Garbage in. Garbage out. The PPP rigs its internal elections to produce preordained outcomes for the Central Committee which then produces the most mudheaded members of the Executive Committee which is the all powerful entity that runs the party. The current leadership always handpicks its successors. Pa seh Ma, Ma seh Ba, Bah seh Da. Now we are all left wondering whah Ba guh seh now?

There is NO WAY to reform this party because the supporters are locked out of the process and have no democratic culture of demanding inclusion. PPP supporters unfortunately are not as sophisticated as their PNC counterparts.

Thanks be to the great god Cheddar Jagan, Indians are saddled with a political organization that is the destruction of Indian people.
