Granger is either being dishonest or losing his memory – Jagdeo

Opposition Leader, Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo believes that President David Granger is either being dishonest or losing his memory when it comes to the issue of substantive appointments of persons as Chancellor of the Judiciary and Chief Justice of Guyana.
The Opposition Leader was at the time responding to comments made by the Head of State, at a press conference at his Church Street Office on Thursday.
President Granger told the media that Jagdeo’s rejection of the nominees for the two positions is stymieing the function of the judiciary.
But Mr. Jagdeo argued that clearly the Peoples National Congress (PNC) – which is lead by Granger – did not believe it was holding up progress when it refused to agree to the substantive appointments of persons in those positions when the Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) was in office.
“Is this president still living in Guyana? You know my concerns that he lives in a different universe but to be so duplicitous is dishonest, imagine this president was Opposition Leader from 2011 to 2015, he withheld his agreement for all of those years for the appointment of substantive Chief Justice and Chancellor,” Jagdeo explained.
Jagdeo explained that “for six years, he has been the single person who has stymied the appointment, he has given me one month and now it’s my behaviour that is holding up the appointment. Can you be more dishonest? This is pure unadulterated dishonesty on the part of the president.”
The Opposition Leader further explained that the judiciary has been functioning quite normally even with persons acting in those positions.
“The judiciary functioned in all those years, the 12 years PNC/APNU withheld their agreement, the judiciary is functioning now and we have acting (persons) and I think they’re doing a good job in the position, so this is all an excuse and that is why I say how can you be do dishonest, maybe it is a memory failure if it’s not dishonesty,” he expressed.
Jagdeo suspected that President Granger is setting the stage to create an excuse for possibly more unconstitutional acts in the future.
