THE people of Guyana, especially those who voted for the Opposition must wake up and ask themselves if the actions of the Opposition, both in and out of Parliament,  represent their expectations when they voted for them in the 2011 elections.
The deception by the Opposition of those who believed their rhetoric during the 2011 elections and voted for them is becoming clearer by the day. It is clear that all the actions of the Opposition,

without exception, are directed at one single objective, which is not the development of Guyana and the welfare of its people.
It is the capturing of political power in Guyana regardless of the consequences of their actions for the nation and every single Guyanese. In fact, they are no strangers to this strategy; they have used it when the PPP was in government in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It is the only one they know and every single Guyanese, 40 years and older, have vivid memories of the consequences. The Opposition is once again at it, digging Guyana into a state of economic stagnation and political instability.

The Opposition’s clearest act yet of deception, betrayal and total disregard for the social and economic welfare for those who voted for them and all Guyanese, is the abuse of their one seat majority to vote down  the single most important project for Guyana –  the Hydro Electric Project (Amaila Falls hydro project), without being able to give one single valid reason.
The Opposition has also made themselves an even bigger laughing stock, not only in Guyana and the Caribbean, but in the entire world.
It is totally incomprehensible to anyone except, for themselves of course,  why a project that is poised to propel Guyana to unimaginable economic and social progress is voted down. Ask someone who never went to school, an accomplished economist or an accomplish academic, and none of them will be able to explain why persons who called themselves representatives of the people and claim to be putting their country first, would deny that very country and its people the most important input for  its development and raising the standard of living of those very people they claim to be representing – cheap and abundant renewable energy.
This is how wise Guyana’s Opposition leaders are, sad but unfortunately, true. And believe it or not, some of them are calling themselves economists and development specialists. Some of them even teach Economics, Development Planning, Public Policies, etc, at institutions of higher learning. Again, sad but unfortunately, true. In fact some of them even have titles such as Doctor and MBA added to their names.   Indeed, the Opposition is made up of the wisest of the wise.
Imagine, how wise (and I should add shameless and bare face) these guys are that on the morning of July 18th they  converged    in Linden to blame the Government for the death of three persons who lost their lives as a result of violence they instigated to achieve their political goals, demanding free electricity from the rest of the country and within hours, they proceed to abuse their one-seat majority in Parliament to vote down the Hydro Electric Power Bill which would bring great relief to the  more than 95% of Guyanese who reside outside of Linden.
The less than five percent people living in Linden and the development of their community will not be left out either.  What the Opposition has effectively done in the National Assembly by voting down the Hydro Electric Project is saying to the 95% of Guyanese living out of Guyana: “You have no right to cheap electricity, development and a better standard of living.”
These Opposition parliamentarians are indeed the biggest bunch of hypocrites ever known in human history. They have just earned themselves this prestigious title. It is recommended that the Minister of   Culture make every effort to record this great accomplishment as part of our heritage and gift to the world.
Ask someone who never went to school or an accomplished academic.

Opposition sabotages Guyana’s futurePDFPrintE-mail

EXECUTIVE Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Mr. Zulficar Mustapha, stressed at a PPP media briefing yesterday, at Freedom House on Robb Street, Georgetown, that every single Guyanese citizen stands to benefit -- either directly or indirectly -- from the wave of increased development and economic expansion that the Amaila Falls Hydropower Project (AFHP) would create; and it is expected that the opposition will, over the coming days, do their utmost to distract from their monumental error in not supporting the AFHP, but Guyanese cannot let the opposition get away with sabotaging the people’s future. “We encourage more citizens and groups to come forward and join the many others who have already registered their concern at this very unfortunate development,” he said.

Mustapha said the opposition seems comfortable in holding a project as transformational as the AFHP at ransom because of “narrow partisan aims”, and this justifies statements made by President Donald Ramotar in labelling their move “an act of terrorism”.

He said the party joins the wide cross-section of persons from the religious, civil society and business sectors in condemning the move by the Alliance For Change (AFC) and A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) in voting against legislation crucial to the Amaila Falls Hydro Project.

Last Thursday, the combined opposition voted down the Hydro-Electric Power (Amendment) Bill and a motion to increase the debt ceiling on external loans from $1B to $150B, both of which were critical to the AFHP.

According to Mustapha, there is no rational justification for the AFC/APNU actions, especially because the government had made significant efforts to provide all the details of the project to the opposition, and to answer their every question; besides taking them to the hydro site to inspect the ongoing road construction, where they agreed that much progress has been made.

“The reality, now that the future of the project has been seriously jeopardized, confirms that the opposition -- and particularly the PNC in the form of APNU -- is hell bent on ensuring that Guyanese do not benefit from a hydro project under any PPP government, as it will show up their dismal failure with their hydro project during their period in government,” Mustapha asserted.

The leader of the Opposition dedicated the year 2013 as the year of the youths. Yet he strikes at the heart of young people's future when he rejected the Amaila Falls Hydro Proect. There is simply no other other initiative that can have a greater transformational impact upon the lives of young people than a cheap, reliable and environmentally -friendly supply of electricity. The Hydro project is designed to achieve this objective. Anyone opposed to this project is an enemy of young people and indeed an enemy of all Guyana.

“Why was Makeshwar “Fip” Motilall awarded the contract when he has never built a road or hydro plant?”  This was one of the questions raised by Carl Greenidge, the shadow Finance Minister of a Partnership for National Unity (APNU). However in response the erstwhile Attorney General Anil Nandlall pointed out that the best person to explain the merits of hiring Motilall to build the road would be no other than Cathy Hughes, executive member of the Alliance For Change (AFC).

The reason why the PPP finds itself as a MINORITY govt is the fiasco of Amaila and the fact that they really think that Guyanese will believe that GEO will ever attract as much traffic as POS, meriting EIGHT jetways.  I am not even sure if Piarco has that many jetways, despite having much more traffic than GEO.

The PPP has never explaine dthe Fip Motilall and Amaila, so why do they think that people find them credible.  Indeed the AFC/APNU demands for greater transparency is exactly why Guyanese voted the way that they did.

Hey Councie...go wash yuh stinky battie.....

Why don't you take your own advise, but try it on your foul mouth.

Still waiting for you to tell me why GEO needs EIGHT jetways.

Clearly it doesn, but to build a terminal more in keeping with what GEO requires will provide fewer opportunities for PPP cronies to steal.

They are extremely enraged that the APNU/AFC feel brazen enough to interfere in this runnings.

Listen PPP all you have to do is to let some PNC cronies share in the gravy and they will support everything that you do.  The AFC will then scream in the wilderness while the two politi9cal elites join in the raping of Guyana.

Baseman and the other PPP psychos tell the PPP to share the gravy.

A simple walk about in any given section of the Guyanese society would reveal the citizens are deeply disappointed with the political stalemate in the National Assembly, and are placing the blame squarely at the feet of the joint Opposition, an increasing number is calling for snap elections.
