Despite the turnout at Naressa's Place yesterday, all those attending, except a few, will not be casting a ballot in Guyana Election. The Guyana elections will be fought on the ground in Guyana and not in New York, by the people living there. So the turn out in New York is irrelevant. If they feel that the PPP deserve to win/lose so be it. The important thing is for the elections to be free and fear and free from fear.

HEHEHEHE Stupidy Bill is alive and well.
Bet if turnout was low...yall will crow that this represents no support for APNU/AFc in Guyana
If there is interest in RH, bet your bottom dollar that there is interest in Guyana
Interest for all political parties will manifest in and out of Guyana.
Attendance reflects the various groups, though it is quite conceivable that most of those in foreign country do not vote in Guyana's election.
The actual votes will be known on or after May 11, 2015; though many do have their personal views on the outcome of the results.
Well, noooo shiiiittt!!!

The APNU came to get help. They got help.

That's a small turnout, 150/350,000..can't even round it to the nearest percentage...there are over 350k Guyanese in Queens.

There are less than 100K guyanese in Queens. It is estimated that another 60 to 80K are there illegally. Ask Vishnu, only about 15k register to vote. Less than 8K vote

I do not care what that says. Only approx 50K guyanese were given permanent resident visas since 1990 and there were about 40K of them there before that. All of the Immigrants did not come to queens.
Further, you have the political people estimates and they have real data from the census about the district. There was around 70K there when I last look. Vishnu can give you the exact numbers since I am sure he has the census data. The City claims there are around 150 with more than half illegal when they were trying to shut down on basement dwelling.
You are still wrong, the numbers are much higher than that. Bottom line, the percentage of turnout at the meeting at Naresa Palace is not even worth mentioning.

what an idiot article . . . throwing around nonsensical and contradictory numbers, e.g.,
"What Are Over 200,000 Guyanese Hindus Doing in New York State?"
"There are close to 200,000 Guyanese in America, with the major community settled in Richmond Hills-Jamaica area of Queens"
smh

Alena first of all we can debate about how many Guyanese live in NYC and your 350k number is way more than NYC Planning estimates.
Secondly. I can ask you if Guyanese so hate APNU AFC why did only 15 people show up to protest. Most assuredly there was more room OUTSIDE for people to protest than inside. EVERY one who went there said that the place was filled to capacity, and indeed likely that if the fire dept showed up, they would have ended the event as it was over capacity.
The PNC showed up in Richmond Hill and the place was packed to over capacity, and there was no heckling and he received many claps.
I challenge Ramotar to go into Brooklyn and get a similar reaction. The place would be EMPTY!

These numbers are about right. The total Guyanese population in the USA is maybe around 300k.
Read this..In 1995 there were over 200k hindus alone...
And the West Indian Labor Day committee boasts that 3,000,000 people show up to the event on Eastern parkway. People over state their numbers to suit their agenda.
You are still wrong, the numbers are much higher than that. Bottom line, the percentage of PROTESTERS at the meeting at Naresa Palace is not even worth mentioning.
I adjusted your statement so that you can see how ridiculous you look. 200-250 attended the event. 15-20 showed up to protest.
Obviously Guyanese aren't as up in arms with APNU as you wished that they would be.
Note that of one totals attendance at the various events over the weekend its likely to reach at least 700.
BTW Nagamootoo and Granger knew about the PLANNED protests the day before. In addition THREATENING calls were made to the owner of the facility to force him to cancel the event. BTW I was told this on SATURDAY!

I do not speak from ignorance. You are not speaking about real numbers and is even making a more silly analogy as to ratios of who attended a meeting to who live in RH.
The event you are speaking of is not a rally or a political gathering that seeks grand numbers. The fact that they rented a hall that seats some 180 persons spoke to that.
They came to collect cash and this is their way of organizing a coffee klatch as political people are wont to call them It is selective gathering of targeted individuals ( often you need to be invited to attend) who came to support a party financially.

There are about 140,000 Guyanese immigrants living in New York City, according to the latest American Community Survey figures, making them the fifth-largest foreign-born population in the city. While many Afro-Guyanese immigrants have settled among other Afro-Caribbean immigrants in places like Canarsie and Flatbush in Brooklyn, Guyanese of South Asian descent are concentrated in large numbers in Richmond Hill and neighboring Ozone Park.

So even if you round it up to 180k, there aren't more than 70k Guyanese Hindus in NYC.

City planners were working with that number when they were complaining about illegal conversion of basement appartments and add-ons to buildings. They were complaining about RH not being able to sustain the population density ( not so by the opponents). Of these some 70 to 80K are legal residents and of these some 50K- 60 K are citizens. who can vote.

job with the article.
