Guyana received a maximum number of Indentured Laborers from Colonial India from 1838-1917 about 240,000,Although indentureship was abolished in 1917 only 32% returned to India (Trotz&Peake 2000) in 1911 census persons of Indian Origin emerged as an ethnic majority.
The Indian population in Guyana rose steadily 42% in 1921,48% in 1960,and in 1990 they comprise nearly 51% (Seenarine,1996:CIA World Fact Book,Merill,1992)
From the information above,the Indo Guyanese population increased from 1960 to 1990.
The PNC government came into office from 1964 to 1992.
During that period there were migration also the Indian population increased.Taking a look at the 2012 census,noticeably there were more East Indian Migration from 1990,it can be concluded due to sponsorship to unite with families hence the increase.
