I was really hoping that the perpetrators of the Boston Marathon bombing wouldn’t turn out to be Muslims. I was hoping they’d be right wing nut jobs, like Timothy McVeigh, because then self-appointed patriots would feel no need to exact retribution.

If they had been representatives of some misguided Christian group like the Westboro Baptist Church (which plans, naturally, to picket the funerals of the victims), no houses of worship would be threatened.

America being the kind of place it is, however, some will tar an entire group of loyal Americans with the actions of two individuals who have about as much to do with mainstream Islam as the aforementioned Westboro group has to do with the Vatican.

Intelligent, sensible people will not try to make a connection that does not exist, but there will be othersβ€”those who seek simple solutions to complex issuesβ€”who will be bent on catharsis.

I am sad for our country when I ponder what may happen during the next few days and weeks to some of our undeserving fellow citizens. I would like nothing better than to be pleasantly shocked out of my cynicism.

After Boston, we should put Muslims under surveillance, says Rep. King

President Obama cautioned the nation not to rush to judgment about the Boston Marathon bombers. But that’s not stopping Republican Rep. Peter King.

King, who chairs the House subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence, is urging authorities to beef up their surveillance of Muslims in the U.S.  following Friday night’s arrest of bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Police must β€œrealize that the threat is coming from the Muslim community and increase surveillance there,” the New York lawmaker told National Review.

Kingβ€”who spearheaded controversial hearings on the radicalization of Muslim-Americans in 2011β€”also told CNN that β€œwe can’t be politically correct. I think we have to see, has radicalization extended into the Chechen community?”

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, was taken into custody on Friday night in Watertown, Mass., after a day-long manhunt following an early-morning shootout with police in which his older brother, Tamerlan, 26, was killed. The two are suspected of planting bombs that killed three people and injured more than 170 near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday.

The ethnic Chechen brothers came to the U.S. in 2002 after fleeing the war-torn region. The two were born in the former Soviet territory now known as Kyrgyzstan. Those who knew the family have said Tamerlan Tsarnaev had become a devout Muslim in the past few years.

Dzhokhar became a naturalized citizen in 2012, while Tamerlan had a green card and was reportedly hoping to become a citizen.

I agree with King.

just arrived at JFK and had to go through the full search routine.

All because of Muslim terrorists.

it's time Muslims pull their head out of the sand and realize that many of their brothers are terrorists and a blight to Islam.

I fully support King. Put the Fullahs under surveillance and deport them.
