PPP has not settled on nominee for Deputy Speaker -Rohee
At his regular Monday morning press conference at Freedom House, Mr. Rohee said a report which appeared in the Guyana Times naming Nandlall as the nominee for the position is "untrue". He said the report is far from the truth.
The General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party, Clement Rohee, this morning denied that the party has identified former Attorney General Anil Nandlall as its nominee for Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.
At his regular Monday morning press conference at Freedom House, Mr. Rohee said a report which appeared in the Guyana Times naming Nandlall as the nominee for the position is “untrue”. He said the report is far from the truth.
Rohee disclosed that the party has identified a nominee for the Chief Whip position but no decision has been taken as it relates to the Deputy Speaker’s position.
Following the report of Nandlall being considered for the post, a number of activists and groups complained about the choice, saying that Nandlall should not be allowed to serve in such a position because of that leaked telephone conversation which captured him making several obscene and disparaging remarks about a female reporter and also warning a Kaieteur News reporter about working at the private media house.
The PPP has not decided when it will take up its opposition seats in the parliament. Last week, the party named its list of candidates to serve as Members of Parliament. Rohee said when the PPP decides to return to parliament, it might be a “holy Thursday”.
