Serial rapist strikes again

Police have detained a man who they believe is responsible for a number of break and enters and attacks over a prolonged period, on single women and on those who live alone on the Essequibo Coast.

But a teacher who was attacked by man early Saturday morning has told police that the one detained is not the man who had broken into her house and physically assaulted her.

Reports have revealed that the Cotton Field Secondary teacher was attacked by the man who entered her La Belle Alliance house during the wee hours of Saturday morning and proceeded to attack her.

The teacher told the police that she had to wrestle with the man since his intention was to rape her. After fighting with him, whom she recognised, the teacher said her ankle was hurt. She also expressed disappointment at not being able to walk.

The teacher said that it was the fourth time that she was attacked. A report on the recent incident was lodged with police at the Anna Regina Police station.

The suspected rapist has made numerous attacks on women in Richmond, neighbouring Lima, Sparta, Devonshire-Castle, Anna Regina and Bush Lot.

One woman who was attacked during the Christmas holidays has since indicated that she can recognise the man who dragged her down her stairs and attempted to rape her. She has also expressed concern over the inability of the police to apprehend the man before more women are attacked.

Another woman who woke up to find the man in her yard said the situation is very serious and that the police need to do everything in their power to look for the suspected rapist. β€œWe are not sure if this man has some disease and is spreading it. The police need to do something and do it fast”.

The suspected rapist usually strikes between midnight and dawn. His aim is to either rape these women and in cases where alarms are made to ward him away, he would usually steal women’s underwear.
