A spurned cane-cutter stabbed his 19-year old ex-girlfriend to death at around 19.00 hrs on Saturday after trailing her and a male friend to a Rosignol, West Bank Berbice restaurant.
Shazina Mahamad of Lot 53 Edinburgh Scheme, East Bank Berbice was reportedly stabbed several times by her former lover while she was standing in front of the Yang Yi Chinese Restaurant.
She had reportedly gone there with another male friend, who was in the restaurant purchasing a meal when the jilted man carried out his brutal assault.

Shazina was rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where she succumbed.
The alleged killed fled the scene but was arrested yesterday morning at his Shieldstown, West Coast Berbice home.
According to the police, Shazina Mahamad was involved in an argument with the cane harvester, with whom she is reported to have ended a relationship.
During the argument, he brandished a knife and stabbed her multiple times. A tattered tee-shirt that the teen was wearing indicated that she was also stabbed in the back.
Kaieteur News understands that Shazina had journeyed to Risognol to collect a phone and had decided to go to the restaurant with a male friend, Mitra Sukdeo, and his sister.
Sukdeo told Kaieteur News that he suspected that the killer had trailed them to the restaurant.
Sukdeo stated that he was inside the restaurant with his sister when he heard Shazina screaming outside. He then saw the teen clutching at her stomach and also observed a man running from the scene.
He said that Shazina subsequently collapsed and was rushed to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital.  She was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where she died.

Sukdeo later told investigators that Shazina had revealed she and the suspect had once shared a relationship, but that it ended some time ago.
The owner of the restaurant recalled that around 19:00 hours that night she noticed the teen standing at the restaurant’s gate. According to the woman, a male friend who accompanied Shazima came in and ordered a meal.
“Everything happened so quick. I just see her standing there then this other guy come up and I see like they talk lil bit and then he start stabbing her. Even the other customer that was sitting on the table outside said he didn’t hear her scream or anything.”
According to the woman, the suspect quickly ran away and it was a group of public spirited citizens who assisted the injured young woman to the hospital.
When Kaieteur News visited the slain teen’s home, her father, Shafike Mahamad, and her seven sisters were in a state of shock.
Recalling the last time he saw his young daughter, Shafike Mahamad said that earlier that day she had left to visit a friend at Rosignol, West Bank Berbice; about 45  minutes away from where she lived.

Mahamad said that he received a phone call that his daughter had been stabbed and was in a critical condition at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. When he arrived at the institution, doctors were treating his daughter but she died at around 23:00 hours that night.
The father said he was told that his daughter and a male friend went to purchase a meal at a restaurant.
“This guy (the killer)  know she. He does comes here (their house) one-one time. He is not her boyfriend. He like she but she nah like he.”
Attempting to explain the events which may have led to his daughter’s death, Mahamad said: “like he (the suspect) go and see she with the boy and think is she boyfriend and he mussy vex about it.”
As he fought to hold back tears, Mahamad showed this publication the navy blue shirt his daughter was wearing at the time of the incident.
Kaieteur News observed that the piece of clothing had several punctures on both sides. Though it had been laundered, a substance appearing to be blood was still apparent.
“Them doctors said she had a lot of stabs. All the holes that you see here, that’s where the knife went through. The doctors them tell me that she get bore in she back too,” he explained as he held the shirt.
The man described his daughter as a loving, easy going person who always had a smile to share.
There have been at least ten murders for the year and Shazina Mahamad is the third female victim for January, 2015.

Regardless of your opinions, PPP has nothing to do with unrequited love. Should the PPP employ a police escort for everyone who has trouble with his/her lover?

You are right in a failed state the government is not responsible for respect for law and order. The failed state is another reason why GY has the highest suicides in the world. Another proud PPP achievement.

Give yourselves a duck curry medal.

I don't speak for the AFC but I think some of the key approaches have to be to address the issue from a health and safety aspect, a social aspect and of course law enforcement.

The PPP has NCN which they do not use in any way to drive social awareness or education about violence against women etc. NCN is used for political propaganda by Gale the beast and nandlall.

There are no places for help where folks who need counseling etc can go to. Mental health is a serious issue in GY, depression is another major problem these issues are all compounded when you have a significant portion of the population that are functionally illiterate.

There is no magic bullet but any government has to tackle this issue from multiple angles. Guyana is in neglect.

It is ridiculous to suggest there will be no crime under any government.

However, you cannot simultaneously argue that the PPP is even making an attempt at addressing these health and social issues which eventually become criminal issues in GY? Yes?

What social awareness has the PPP driven about domestic violence and violence against women? what have they done on the law enforcement end to reduce these crimes?

The AFC has done a ton to suggest ideas and engage with the government. But you cannot engage with a government whose primary focus is thiefin and pillaging.

The AFC is a party with 7 MP's they are fairly small and limited with the resources available to them. In any democracy the onus is on the government to solve these problems. Asking what the AFC has done or is doing is completely irrelevant and nonsensical.

Alleged gang rape… Mother wants police protection for son

JANUARY 20, 2015 | BY  | FILED UNDER NEWS

The teen at the GPHC

The mother of the teenager, who was allegedly drugged and raped by 10 men in a house at Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara (WCD), is pleading with the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to provide protection for her son.
She said that she was told that when she is not at the hospital strange people would be visiting her 18-year-old son at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
The Bellevue, West Bank Demerara (WBD) said that she even met with three individuals last Saturday at the hospital.
“Three persons come to see him and I don’t even know them. I have never seen them before, they just come and stand up just like that, looking at him and my son doesn’t have a lot of friends so I don’t know why they are there,” the woman related.
She told Kaieteur News that she is scared that people might try to harm her son to prevent him from giving the police a statement.
“He is slowly recovering…He is not talking but he looks at you and shakes his head. The doctors said that he is still traumatized and that could be one of the reasons why he is not talking,” the mother stated.
The woman said that the police are awaiting her son’s recovery to take a statement.
The teen is receiving counseling; he is constantly being visited by the hospital’s psychiatrist.
The victim’s mother told this newspaper that around 16:00 hrs on December 31, last, the teen left his home to attend an Old Year’s Night party with a friend.
She explained that her son did not return home later that night.
“The next day (New Year’s Day) about five o’clock in the afternoon (17:00 hrs) I get a call from my son’s friend. He said that my son would sleep by him the night and come home the next day (Friday, January 2) and I said that was okay,” the mother said.
She added that later that night (New Year’s), she received another call from her son’s friend.
“He call and tell me that he sending my son in a taxi, but my son reach home till around 11 o’clock (23:00hrs) that night. He came with a car and as soon as the car stop, he run out,” the mother of nine said.
“My son was in a terrible condition. He was scared for his life; he was nervous, his body was trembling and I could see he was in pain.”
According to the devastated mother, at that point she did not question the teen much, since he was in too much discomfort.
She said that he later asked to use the washroom.
“I hold him up, but he couldn’t defecate. He was just shaking and he was crying out for belly pain. When he wiped himself, there was a lot of blood on the tissue and I hold him up and put him to lie down on a bed.”
The mother said that when she questioned her son, he related the dreadful news to her.
“He said that his friend juk he with a needle, he and about nine other men rape him in a house.”
She said that the teenager’s arm was swollen which seemed to indicate that he had indeed been injected.
The woman said that her son told her that the men then locked him in the house and later went back for him.
“He said that the boys took him somewhere and they were going to shoot him, but a lady see and shout, and tell him to run. He run and jump in a taxi and the car bring him home,” the mother said.
Investigations are ongoing.
