The President of Uruguay donates 90% of his salary
I am sure if he wanted it, his country would not hesitate to give him a pension of G$3M a month upon his retirement, and be happy for him to build a mansion he can retire in. Instead, former guerrilla fighter and now the president of Uruguay, 77 year old JosÉ Mujica, donates 90% of his G$2.5M monthly salary.
What a contrast to the vagabonds we have ruling our country - a country much poorer than Uruguay. Here we have preferred public servants, such as the head of the beleaguered power company, GPL, being paid just as much as the President of Uruguay. And incompetent and unqualified advisors at the Office of the President are paid hefty salaries as well. This includes Ramotar's son, Alexei, who is paid G$1.8M, and Joey Jagan's son, Cheddi III, who earns G$450,000. All this while the Guyana Government says it cannot buy original textbooks for the children of Guyana.
Need I mention Jagdeo, who was never in Guyana's political struggle, and the vulgar palace he built and the G$3M+ pension he awarded himself at age 48???
