THE Guyana Sugar Corporation says new records have been set on a number of estates with the industry producing 10,539 tonnes of sugar for week ending September 25, 2015, the highest weekly production since March, 2009. Skeldon factory has recorded 2,662 tonnes of sugar surpassing its previous highest of 2,502 tonnes which was achieved in October 2012, a release from GuySuCo said. Blairmont factory ground for 156 hours for the week, the highest ever achieved by that location, while Uitvlugt factory produced 1,125 tonnes of sugar, recording its highest weekly production since October, 2010
Skeldon, Albion, Rose Hall and Blairmont Factories have all surpassed their revised weekly grinding hours of 135, the release added. It said too that Skeldon, Albion, Rose Hall, Blairmont, East Demerara and Uitvlugt Estates have all made significant contribution in ensuring the Corporation surpassed 10,000 tonnes of sugar for the week. “As a result of their individual performance the workers on those locations will each be benefiting from one day weekly production incentive. This brings the total power supplied for the year to date to 26,935,000 KWh. As at September 28, 2015 Sugar production for the crop to date is 67,466 tonnes and 148,610 tonnes for the year to date.

Cost is a different topic, right now output is critical.  As long as they cover the margin, the cost will come down in the short run and that will have time to address the difficult structural issues.

How long with that take without massive financial inflows if they are already 100 billion in debt?

They need to scrap sugar and plant cassava. More cassava pone and cassava bread. When they get stale, they can store them to block bullets from Venezuela.

Guy and does produce coffee. My brother bought some beans from imam Bacchus on the Essequibo Coast. They also produce packages of ground coffee. Not certain if it be purchased overseas.

I am not sure whether this is the same place at/near  Regina, but I was with a foreign diplomat, when he get some coffee here.

They had a store on the right side of the  road and  possible a rice mill on the left.

In 1992, I interviewed a coffee farmer in Canal #2 Polder for an article published in Alesie's FARMWORLD magazine. That year, 5,000 100-pound bags of coffee were produced in Guyana.

Besides the Canals Polder, coffee is produced in the Pomeroon.

I have been unable to get production figures for the period 2006-2015. Here is the picture for previous years:

1961: 5,000 100-lb bags

1969: 20,000 100-lb bags

1980: 22,000 100-lb bags

1990: 5,000 100-lb bags

2005: 2,000 100-lb bags

I want to know if Guyanese coffee is available for sale in Toronto or New York. I'm not going to travel to Guyana just to buy coffee.  I recall the wonderful taste of coffee and wake houses. My family drank tea and not coffee.
